The International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) is an independent, not-for-profit, non-political membership organisation dedicated to promoting the professionalism, recognition and training of marine surveyors worldwide.
Having celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 2016, IIMS is the leading professional body for surveyors globally.With around 1,000 members in over 90 countries, the Institute is headquartered in attractive historic Grade II listed accommodation, which it owns, in Portchester midway between Portsmouth and Southampton.
The Institute employs eleven people.
Day to day management of the organisation is through the CEO, supported by the head office secretariat and a management board made up of fifteen international members.
The IIMS defines marine surveying as: 'The service provided to maritime and transport organisations in general and the production of guidance reports for all other bodies connected with maritime operations or trade'.
Revenues are derived from varied sources, including membership fees (about one quarter), distance learning education programmes (about one third) with the remaining income made up of vessel licencing fees, face to face and online training seminars and publishing activities.
The Marine Surveying Academy (MSA) is a trading division of the Institute and provides third-party accreditation and training to other organisations in the superyacht coatings and offshore marine sectors.
IIMS has undergone sustained growth over the past few years, is profitable, and this is set to continue. The business has embraced new technologies in all areas to simplify various activities, including developing several unique apps.
IIMS has created a new opportunity for a Marketing & Publishing Executive, based at the offices in Portchester, who will support the ongoing work of the CEO and report to him.
The business has a number of products and services to offer, all of which require individual marketing plans to be further developed and delivered.
IIMS publishes high quality monthly digital newsletters, which are widely read throughout the marine industry. The quarterly award-nominated Report Magazine, extending to 132 pages plus, is the jewel in the crown.Although working under your own initiative with the support of the CEO and colleagues, you will be expected to be part of and contribute to a small, committed, close-knit and busy team.

Key functions include:
- Developing promotional and marketing strategies across the various products and services, including: IIMS membership, distance learning professional qualifications and modules, the IIMS Certifying Authority, the series of handy guides, The Registered Marine Coatings Inspector standard and the Yacht Coatings Technical Insights programme.
- Assisting with compiling monthly news bulletins and podcasts using appropriate software in conjunction with the inhouse graphic designer.
- Managing the relationship with the Institute's below the line digital marketing agency.
- Ability to write compelling copy.
- Knowledge of creating PR campaigns.
- Using campaign data analysis to help refine marketing programmes.
- Working closely with the company's inhouse graphic designer and other colleagues who manage social media platforms and WhatsApp groups.
