ABOUT THE POST
The School of Social Sciences & Professions at London Metropolitan
University wishes to appoint a full-time Principal Lecturer in the
responsible
including line management tasks.

The successful applicant will join an outstanding team of staff, playing
a central role in developing and sustaining the culture of relationship,
strengths-based student experience, research mindedness and strong
internal and external networks, partnerships and employer lead
provision.

We expect our students to develop a strong commitment to the values of
social justice over the course of the programmes they study. This will
include developing their critical understanding of policy and practice
and acquiring an understanding of the ethical perspectives that underpin
work in their professions.

We are proud of our very strong relationships with a range of voluntary
sector and local authority partners. The University is a leading member
of the North East London Social Work Teaching Partnership which is a
Department for Education funded programme that seeks to boost the
Social

Work profession through improved links between employers and Higher
Education Institutions. Our Youth courses have JNC recognition and our
Leadership in Communities Course has a strong association with The
Chartered Institute of Housing who also accredit our BSc in Social Work.

Our courses also benefit from London Met's strong links with its local
community. Our student body is amongst the most socially and culturally
diverse of any in the UK and the successful applicant will be committed
to a relationship based approach that enhances the cultural capital of
area and has vibrant and expanding programmes including the Approved
Mental Health Practitioner course and Step Up to Social Work being
delivered from February 2024.

The successful applicant will have experience of teaching across a
number of areas of specialist knowledge primarily within and across the
Social Work courses and will also need to be committed to continuing to

expertise sought include:
Readiness for direct practice, assessment and
planning; lifespan development; social work theories; law; adult and
children mental health.

The successful applicant will also be expected to develop exciting,
innovative and research informed approaches to teaching, making strong
use of their practice experience and existing knowledge of learning
technology. They will have good pedagogic, ICT, communication and
organisation skills and are required to make a significant contribution
to the day to day leadership and management of the courses, ensuring
that programme objectives and learning outcomes are aligned with the
Education for Social Justice Framework and that course content is
relevant and reflective of current practice and innovative pedagogical
approaches to meet students' needs.

The successful applicant will have a strong commitment to the

developing" approach when dealing with colleagues and students; and
working collegially; valuing the contribution of others and sharing
knowledge and expertise.
