Procurement Officer

London, Birmingham (Hybrid)

Up to £35,000
As a key member part of a small and dynamic team, this is a great time to join us

as a Procurement Officer.

You will have experience in all procurement activity from sourcing the market, through to formalising the procurement approach, carrying out the procurement activity and tendering, through to contract award and ongoing supplier management.


Excellent communication is pivotal and one of your objectives will be to develop close working relationships as you will be the person our internal teams and suppliers will turn to for support.

You will have ownership of your own portfolio

of procurement and contract management activities, giving you exposure to many different projects and suppliers. You will need to be proactive, able to cope with multiple activities simultaneously and work to agreed deadlines daily.

  • This role offers a fantastic opportunity to be an integral part of a team and influence how the function will operate as we commence a major procurement transformation programme in 2024. This is a hybrid role with a minimum expectation of 23 days in the office.


Lead the end-to-end procurement, contracting and contract management processes, ensuring value for money is achieved and risks are mitigated through all activity.

This includes but is not limited to developing obligations trackers, contract management plans, procurement strategies and tender documents as well as attending supplier meetings and supporting with negotiations

Contract Administration activity

Monitoring the multiuser mailbox


Supports the procurement team with implementation of procurement procedures in keeping with the Chiltern Procurement Policy and ensures adherence by business units.

Ensures continuous improvement in procurement processes and procedures

Supports the Procurement team in developing and maintaining a plan of all procurement activity to meet business needs

Develops sound knowledge of contract terms and conditions in order to minimise risk and maximise commercial opportunities with suppliers

Knowledge of policies and legislation that impact on contract formulation

Understands the impact procurement has on the business and able to work with finance and operational stakeholders to realise expected benefits

Partner with key stakeholders across the business to understand key requirements for their business units

Good communication skills, both written and verbal; able to deliver messages (both good and bad) clearly, promptly, and honestly. Use straightforward and structured arguments to gain buy-in from others

Collaborate with Group Procurement and AUKT Central Procurement teams on Group/AUKT wide projects

Any other duties required by the Procurement Manager and Head of Procurement which are appropriate to the post

  • Demonstrable evidence of working in a similar role
Strong demonstrable delivery against expectations

Is recognised as a trusted partner

Communicates, both verbal and written, in a structured way

Skilled in compiling robust tender and commercial documents

Demonstrable experience in running tenders and leading procurement activities

Demonstrable experience in contract/supplier management

Experience in procuring direct and indirect goods and services

Good stakeholder relationship skills

Strong computer skills, proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Knowledge or experience of Public Procurement Regulations would be advantageous

Membership of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) or
- willing to achieve CIPS Level 4 within 24 months

Travel will be required across the Chiltern network and additionally may be required elsewhere within the UK
