Senior Staff Nurse - Haematology/Oncology Triage ***
Hours:37.5hrs pw (shifts: Long days/nights/weekends)


Salary:

We have a brilliant opportunity for an Oncology Triage Senior Staff Nurse based at The LOC. The role will play a vital role in delivering on expert patient care.


The Oncology Triage Nurse will be responsible for providing high quality nursing care through telephone assessment to identify clinical urgency and necessary care level, in order to give advice or refer the patient to the most appropriate place of care.

In addition, to telephone care, the post holder will also utilise their practical nursing skills to provide direct patient care to on the Assessment Unit where the role will be based.

The Triage Nurse will provide care for existing patients on the unit and patients who need physical assessment or intervention following a telephone triage call.


You will participate in the assessment, diagnostic testing and management of the acute cancer patients and promote the acute oncology services via established educational activities.

Triage Nurse will give advice, instigate investigations and implement patient care as appropriate to manage the acutely unwell oncology patient


The Triage Nurse will be expected to work as part of a wider multidisciplinary team to effectively manage patients with a range of haematological and oncological conditions and emergencies, such as metastatic spinal cord compression and suspected neutropenic sepsis.


Skills & Experience

  • NMC registered Nurse
  • Post registration experience within haematology or oncology setting or equivalent
  • Experience in UKONS 24 Hour Triage Tool
  • Intravenous chemotherapy administration experience.
  • Clinical skills in venepuncture, cannulation and the administration of intraven
- ous drugs.

  • Able to effectively communicate with patients over the phone and in person, during what may be a very stressful time for patients
  • Wide and evidencebased knowledge of systemic anticancer treatments e.g. chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy etc and the known and lesser known side effects of these.
