Purpose of the Job
This role ensures the smooth running of all aspects of the Cathedral, including services, events and the day-to-day operations.


They must ensure that all people who use the Cathedral; staff and volunteers, visitors and worshippers are treated with respect and greeted warmly, and any questions or requests are dealt with swiftly and professionally.

They are responsible for ensuring that the Cathedral is safe and always looks at its best.

They must be a welcoming presence on the Cathedral floor, as well as helping with a variety of duties and activities behind the scenes.


They ensure that all services and events are prepared, that they happen to the highest standard and are reset with the Cathedral left tidy once they are finished.


The role requires good communication skills, leadership experience and a proactive personality; capable of decision making, working independently, and coping under pressure.

You will also be regularly climbing spiral staircases and from time-to-time complete high-level work which will require the use of ladders or scaffold towers.

The role includes regular evening & weekend work.


Key Tasks

  • Ensuring that all areas of the Cathedral and its grounds are tidy & safe.
  • Dealing with visitor enquiries in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Working independently or leading a team to set up and derig services/events including stage building, and seating.
  • Being in attendance for, the various events and activities taking place in the Cathedral, including acting as Duty Manager when required.
  • Being able to problem solve and attend to changes/requests as required.
  • Liaising with the wider Cathedral teams and attend meetings as required, including event/services planning meetings.
  • Assisting others in their work; including setting up activities, helping in different departments and responding to the needs of clergy, staff & volunteers.
  • Being responsible for the security of the Cathedral, including the safe locking/unlocking of the building, money collections and being a vigilant presence around the building, responding to security issues in a practical and efficient manner.
  • Being required to support with personal assistance for those who require it, this could include one to one support for users of the building who may need assistance.
  • Supporting with the ongoing care of the Cathedral, for example the cleaning and care of our treasures, replacing light bulbs, and keeping adequate supplies of our consumables.
  • Ensuring that lost property is dealt with in accordance with Cathedral policy.
  • Being able to speak publicly, for example to deliver a safety briefing for an event.
  • Setting up screens, projectors, portable sound systems & lighting units effectively.
  • Being proficient in all aspects of our technical objectives, including the delivery of our sound and video production for services and events.
  • The role involves the opportunity to be actively involved in delivery of acts of worship.
Full training will be provided to support with these duties.


Health & Safety

  • Being aware of and always following the current health and safety policy and procedures.
  • Attending first aid training and administering first aid as appropriate.
  • Ensuring that you are confident delivering fire evacuation and security procedures, including out of hours call outs.
  • Following accident and near miss reporting procedures.

Safeguarding


All staff and volunteers are expected to demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all children and adults who may be at risk, who are involved with and/or visit the cathedral.

This will include adherence to CofE Safeguarding training, policies and procedures and following good practice in relation to their own behaviour and conduct.

Also, the undertaking of any safeguarding duties commensurate with their specific role. The role of Cathedral Floor Co-ordinator & Verger includes the responsibility of lost children.


Remuneration:


Salary:
£23,000

Hours: 37.5 (Full Time)

Holidays: 28 days including bank holidays
Pension: 5% contributory plus 5% non-contributory
