Are you passionate about providing exceptional service to the public while making a positive impact on their lives? If so, we invite you to join our team as a Benefits Officer in the Revenues and Benefits department.


Key Responsibilities:

Provide a first-class service to the public in the granting of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support.
Process claims for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support accurately and efficiently to meet agreed targets.
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of procedures, regulations, and systems, and provide awareness of other welfare benefits when relevant.
Consider and make recommendations on backdating benefit claims.
Uphold a high level of customer care in all interactions.
Offer support to other staff when needed.
Deputize for the Benefits Team Leader in their absence.
Perform other duties as required by the Benefits Team Leader or Benefits Manager.
Undertake administrative duties related to the registration of electors and the organization of elections when necessary.
Embrace and implement environmental sustainability as a guiding principle within processes, activities, and projects.


Key Qualifications and Skills:

Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Strong numeric skills.
Proficiency in Windows-based software.
Understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
Knowledge of benefits legislation and the ability to interpret and communicate it to customers.
Skills to deliver first-class customer service through various service channels.
Familiarity with e-capabilities for Benefits services.
Ability to work quickly and accurately with great attention to detail.
Capacity to meet agreed deadlines and manage conflicting priorities.
Effective planning and prioritization skills.


Experience:

Experience in a customer-facing role.
At least 2 years of experience working within a benefits environment and knowledge or awareness of Housing Benefit legislation.


ICT/Technological Aptitude:

Familiarity with Microsoft systems (Word/Excel/Outlook).
Experience with Capita Academy Systems (an advantage but not essential).
Experience with Enterprise DIP system or any DIP system (an advantage but not essential).
