Description

The department manages trauma from a large catchment, including patients from regional hospitals such as Hillingdon Hospital in Uxbridge and the Royal Berkshire Hospital, in Reading.

Up to 50% of the inpatient activity is dedicated to the provision of acute care for trauma and emergency care.

The elective workload includes skin cancer surgery, hand & wrist surgery, breast reconstruction (including Breast microsurgery), abdomino-perineal reconstruction and some aspects of congenital plastic surgery (e.g.

polydactyly, syndactyly, pinnaplasty, skin lesions & hypospadias).

Members of the Plastic surgery team are involved in the following weekly/monthly MDTs:
Skin cancer, Hand Surgery, Breast reconstruction, Diabetic foot reconstruction and Abdominal wall reconstruction. A multidisciplinary team for hand surgery meets monthly, with input from radiologists and hand therapists.

A multidisciplinary team for breast reconstruction meets weekly, with input from Breast surgery, Oncology, Radiology, Genetics and the Breast Cancer Nursing team.

A multidisciplinary team meets weekly for local and specialist skin cancers on both sites, Frimley North and Frimley South with input from dermatology, oncology, head and neck, radiology, pathology, and ENT.

Some of these MDTs are based at Wexham and others are cross site across the Frimley Trust and many are now conducted via TEAMS.

Plastic Surgery also supports the general surgery team at Reading in their abdominal wall reconstruction work.
