The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Foot and Ankle to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic team.


Please note the job description is pending Royal College approval


The post holder will be required to contribute to the current demand for elective foot and ankle surgery and increase provision for specialist foot and ankle trauma.

This will primarily be on the WM site but will be cross site as needed. The orthopaedic service has dedicated outpatient areas on both site

It is desirable that the post holder has a higher clinical degree (MD or PhD).


It is essential that the post holder is able to demonstrate commitment to service improvement as evidenced by audits and service improvement projects previously completed.

The post holder will have a long-term commitment to delivering trauma care for the department. The post holder will need to be able to contribute to the fracture neck of femur service.


The post holder will be required to build on existing, close relations with colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team.

He/she will be expected to contribute to the 1:7 Trauma on call rota including weekends. He/She will also be required to participate in audit, research, management and service development

1.1 Provide consultant care in the elective and trauma service across a range of procedures.

1.2 To contribute to the generic orthopaedic fracture clinics

1.3 To participate in the decision making of trauma daily through the morning trauma meeting

1.4 Establish new patient pathways alongside colleagues working in the Trust and local commissioners to reduce the length of stay for hip pathways


1.5 The post holder will need to be able to contribute to the fracture neck of femur service to ensure we meet best practice guidelines 100% of the time.

1.6 Deliver consultant review of all non-elective admissions review within 12 hours of admission
