Description
An opportunity has arisen for a Trade Accountant to join the London finance team of a global Commodity Trading Company.
You will be managing a small team responsible for the accounting for and financial control over the commodity trading activity.
You will be a Qualified Accountant with several years post qualification experience with a detailed understanding of the Commodity trading business
Responsibilities
- Management of a small team, including setting and prioritising objectives, training/ coaching, and monitoring performance.
- Trading Margin accounting, including technical accounting judgement to achieve IFRS compliant accounting treatment for all trades and structures, including complex trades involving optionality and financing components
- Reconciliation from Commercial to IFRS/ IAS compliant Financial P&L and validation of all adjustments
- Accounting for Trading/ Commodity components of other income/ expense.
- Calculation and validation of financial returns by business unit/ desk in accordance with defined methodology
- Detailed working capital analysis by business unit/ desk, including forecast and variance analysis
- Intercompany reconciliation
- Trade
- Accounting for Trading finance agreements (e.g. Loans to counterparts)
- Trading accruals/ prepayments (e.g. Structured long term transactions)
- Analysis for reported Trading Margin & other income/expense
- Researching and agreeing technical accounting treatments for Trading/ Commodity transactions, including discussion and agreement with the external auditor
- Analysis and reporting for statutory financial reporting primarily IFRS
- Maintaining accounting documentation for Trading/ Commodity transactions
- Budget Assumptions (Trading Margin)
- Review, analysis and control checks on currency balance sheets (trading)
- Cash flow hedge accounting
Experience required
- Qualified Accountant with several years post qualification experience
- Detailed understanding of a commodity trading business
- Efficient and controlled management of large and complex data sets (systems and analytical tools, e.g. Access, Excel)
- Reconciliation of trade financial data from commercial reporting to IFRS compliant financial reporting, including calculation and validation of financial accounting adjustments.
- Management of reconciliation processes across a large international group.
- Critical analysis of financial data and identification/ investigation of inconsistent/ unusual data
- Presentation and justification of accounting treatment for complex/ structured transactions, including preparation of accounting summary papers for auditor review
