R&D Mechanical Engineer - London


This growing diagnostics company are the inventors of semiconductor-based next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology, who are now developing a revolutionary new platform that enables NGS-based diagnostic capability in an easy to use, cartridge-based systemthat will allow direct from clinical specimen to clinically relevant, actionable results in a matter of hours.


They are looking to hire outstanding talent to join the existing multi-disciplinary NGS platform development team, filling key roles in the rapidly expanding project team.


R&D Mechanical Engineer role:


You will contribute to the development of a commercial, integrated diagnostic device and the research of novel technological solutions to challenging problems.

You will be a creative individual, with strong engineering fundamentals who is comfortable contributingto multi-disciplinary teams of scientists and engineers to solve challenging problems.

As an R&D Engineer, your main activities will involve:

  • Conceive, design and test systems, components and processes to meet product requirements
  • Design, plan and conduct laboratory experiments to understand and optimise parameters for cartridgebased biochemistry processes.
  • Compile, analyse and interpret experimental results and data within an ISO13485 environment
  • Record, document, and present summarised results to internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide technical advice on the integration of science and engineeringrelated aspects of the NGS platform

Person Specification:


Skills & Experience Required:


  • Higher degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent employment experience, with knowledge of mechanical, fluidics and electronics fundamentals applied to the Medical or Life Science sector.
  • Experience with 3D CAD design (Solidworks).
  • Ability to utilise knowledge of microfluidics, pneumatics, fluid control, temperature control, and sensor integration to inform the design of components.
  • Proven ability to analyse and communicate experimental results clearly to internal and external stakeholders

Desirable:


  • PhD in Biomedical, Mechanical or related field
  • Practical experience in rapid prototyping techniques (i.e. CNC milling, 3D printing, laser cutting, plastic bonding techniques).
  • Knowledge of, and ability to write scripting languages (Python).
  • Experience completing technical QC documentation and working in an ISO 13485 regulated organization.
