Disclosure

To provide a high quality, cost effective safe food service across BSMHFT Trust Sites.

Responsible for providing support to the Shift leader/Supervisor on duty, and to act as relief Shift leader during times of absence.

To provide a 'hands on' approach and support to Catering Staff as and when required, in order that service needs are maintained.


At SSL, we work in partnership with Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust (BSMHFT), to deliver facilities management, transport and other support services to over 50 sites across the West Midlands.

GENERAL

  • Responsible for the production and delivery of a highquality safe food service to Staff and Patients, including Patients dietary needs.
  • To be conversant with Computerised systems to maintain up to date records and working relationships within the department, to ensure specified standards and the maintenance of quality monitoring procedures, including inspection and completion of relevant forms.
  • Post holder is responsible for ensuring that they are fully conversant with Catering Operational Policies, Codes of Practice and HACCP Systems that exist within the Hospital. (Details can be found in the Senior Catering Supervisors Office).
  • Responsible for assisting with requisitioning and maintaining adequate stock levels of food/nonfood items in the absence of Shift leaders as directed by the Food Production Manager.
  • Responsibility to report to the appropriate department under Health & Safety legislation the breakdown of any electrical/mechanical equipment.
  • Responsible for helping in ensuring that all cleaning materials are correctly stored/marked and are easily identifiable in accordance with C.O.S.H.H regulations.
  • Responsible for deputising for Shift Leader/Dining Room Supervisor to cover annual/sick leave and in times of emergency.
  • To help with the correct, safe, hygienic receipt, storage and use of all food items, materials and equipment. To assist Shift Leaders with organising function/buffet work, including the transport and collection of food, beverages, cutlery and utensils to and from meetings, wards, dining rooms and other Units.
  • Responsible for the signing in and out of keys to open/close kitchen.

INDIVIDUAL

  • To assist with training requirements, including induction of new staff, under direction of Shift Leaders and in conjunction with the Food Production Manager.
  • To establish and maintain good working relationships between Catering staff and other departments.
  • To assist with minor complaints quickly and efficiently, reporting any matters of a more serious nature to the Shift Leader/Food Production Manager to ensure the continued smooth running of the department.
  • To undertake any ad hoc duties as required by the Shift Leaders and Food Production Manager commensurate with the grade of the post.
  • Responsible for engaging in the Trust appraisal process, that identifies your own personal development and training needs.
  • Responsible for ensuring confidentiality is always maintained in accordance with the data protection act trust policy and good practice.
  • Responsible for reading, understanding and complying with all relevant Departmental/Trust and Statutory Policies and Procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring that they contribute and work towards the Service/Organisational aims and objectives.
  • Responsible for handling cash and operating cash register including balance and banking all monies.
  • It is everyone responsible to be aware of infection control procedures and to carry out relevant training.
  • Every member of staff has a responsibility to be aware of and always follow, the relevant national and local policy in relation to the safeguarding of children, the safeguarding of vulnerable adults and the control of infection.
  • It is everyone responsible to be aware of food allergens ensuring the safety of those consuming food and understand the precautions that need to be taken.
