An exciting opportunity has arisen for a well organised individual to deliver a high-level support service to an Opposition Group Leader at Kent County Council.

This is a politically restricted post meaning post holders are restricted from undertaking any form of political activity. The successful applicant will be required to work in a politically neutral manner.


Applicants should have the ability to undertake relevant research and prepare reports on County Council related policy and general issues as directed by the Opposition Group Leader.

You will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, a can-do attitude and be able to prioritise your work.


You will need to be confident in performing office duties, including taking minutes, arranging meetings and liaising with the public, staff, elected Members, and a range of professionals.


The ability to work under your own initiative and high level of organisational skills in a demanding environment is essential.

You will work as part of a team of three Opposition Group Leader Support Officers.

Each Officer primarily supports one of the current Opposition Group Leaders and there may be the opportunity to work for different Group Leaders as part of their career development.

Interviews will take place in Sessions House, Maidstone during the week commencing 10th July 2023.


A short written task is to be carried out and submitted prior to the interview and will form part of the selection process.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position.

The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
