Audley retirement villages are set in unique locations where our village owners can retire in a peaceful and lavish setting.

Audley villages comprises of owners, who permanently reside on site within their own private homes and who pay a management fee for the upkeep of their properties and access to services on site.

The village also hosts external customers, and this role is responsible for providing a first class, positive experience for both types of clients.


Role Purpose

The Health, Safety and Food Advisor will be responsible for supporting the implementation the Health and Safety Strategy, under the ISO 45001 Occupational health and safety management system and culture within Audley.

Work with our Operations Team and Facilities Managers to deliver safe systems of work, H&S solutions (including some training) consistency and visible support to the Villages and Care Teams.

The Health, Safety and Food Advisor will support the Health and Safety Manager, to create, communicate and drive a robust and interactive HSE culture through the business, positively impacting on preventing accidents and incidents, reducing insurance claims, and contributing to the achievement of current objectives and targets.


This position will be remotely based covering multiple sites across the South and North, so a driving license and car is essential.

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities:


  • To support the Health and Safety Manager in developing and maintaining all elements of the Audley Group Health and Safety Management System and ongoing compliance with ISO 45001 across the business.
  • Support the development and proactive HSE service throughout the business, with a focus on compliant, commercial and practical costeffective solutions.
  • To create and revise policies and procedures, undertake operational risk assessments, introduce risk reduction strategies; and where required build these strategies into the Safety Management System
  • Undertake an internal audit and inspection programme to ensure compliance to both HSE standards ISO Standard and group requirements, with the ability to demonstrate continual improvements in the business.
  • Support the implementation of change initiatives in relation to HSE where necessary and embed Audley values and propositions.
  • Maintain knowledge of all applicable legislation and industry standards and notify management of implications, trends and best practice.
  • To provide information, technical specialist advice and guidance in line with current UK Health and Safety Legislation.
  • To liaise, on behalf of the Health and Safety Manager, with external enforcement agencies in relation to health & safety, food safety and fire compliance matters.
  • Promote HSE best practice and consistency within the Operations teams and across the business.
  • Contribute to the compilation of HSE Performance Management Reports, highlighting trends and issues, and support the Health and Safety Manager to devise improvement measures as appropriate.
  • Report and escalate any apparent deficiencies in management systems of work, work activities or equipment that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health and safety or the environment to Health and Safety Manager.
  • To monitor and where necessary investigate accidents / dangerous occurrences. Actively seek measures to prevent reoccurrence, to produce a reduction in accident numbers.
  • Collate and input data on the biannual fire risk assessment, evacuation, and training programme.
  • Provide health and safety training to our Teams and provide health and safety talks to our owners as required.

Key Skills & Requirements:

  • Knowledge and experience of legislative requirements such as COSHH, Fire Safety, Food safety, Health & Safety, CQC and Safeguarding of our owners
  • Strong communication skills including influential skills to organisation stakeholders, external partnerships, and internal teams.
  • Experience of developing a high compliance culture advising, coaching, and training individuals.
  • Must be able to write clearly and succinctly in a logical and structured way and experience of writing incident and management reports
  • Must have good analysis and IT skills to produce practical solutions to a range of problems

As this role covers a large geographical area you must be a car driver with a full clean driving license.
