Professional Indemnity Claims Manager - Defendant - £120k-£150k

An absolute fantastic opportunity has arisen for my client, who is a Top 10 UK Law Firm with a wide global reach, for a Professional Indemnity Claims Manager.

The role is to manage professional indemnity circumstances and claims against the firm effectively.


The Role:

Work with the firm's PI & Claims Partner, rest of the PI & Claims team and, where appropriate, with the Firm's joint General Counsel to:

  • Handle circumstances and claims and their notification under the Firm's PI policies, including discussion with the relevant partners and fee earners, determining whether or not a notification is appropriate and then liaising with insurers and brokers asappropriate to ensure that proper notification of claims and circumstances is made in compliance with the terms of the firm's insurance policies.
  • Consider, for feedback to the firm's separate Risk Team, what lessons can be learnt from the firm's claims experience and identify/assist to implement appropriate system and working practice improvements to reduce risk of future PI issues.
  • Conduct analysis of insurance notifications in order to identify trends and issues, report on these and ensure that key messages are fed back to practice group managers and professional support lawyers appropriately in order to manage the firm's risk profile.
  • Potentially assist the COLP to handle regulatory matters and/or selfreports to the firm's regulator effectively so as to ensure that the firm complies with its professional obligations and that matters are resolved with a satisfactory resolution from thepoint of view both of insurers and the firm/ Handle their notification to and liaison with PI insurers where appropriate.
  • Assist with the preparation for the annual PI renewal processes as appropriate.
  • Keep abreast of both legal and market developments oon PI issues, attending networking events and seminars as appropriate in order to ensure that the firm is up to date in its thinking and approach on PI claims matters.
  • Assist with conducting appropriate internal PI training to ensure that the culture of negligence causes and claims awareness within the firm is maintained and, where appropriate, strengthened.
  • Where appropriate, to assist partners and fee earners with requests for copy papers in accordance with the Law Society's guidance on File Ownership.
  • 7+ years PQE including Solicitors' PI defence experience.
  • Solicitors PI coverage and wording experience would also be helpful, as might be experience of handling cyber claims.
  • Experience of handling PI claims against large UK law firm(s), whether as part of an inhouse PI & Claims team, a fee earning insurance group, a Solicitors' PI insurer, or a PI broker.
  • Thorough understanding of the SRA Codes of Conduct 2019.
