CRIMINAL TYPIST/SECRETARY

BOURNEMOUTH

UP TO £25,000 PLUS BENEFITS
My client offer the opportunity for someone with good typing and communication skills to join our busy criminal team. Legal experience would be an advantage but not essential as full training will be given. The work is varied and covers all areas of criminal law.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Trained in secretarial practice.
  • Excellent wordprocessing and audiotyping skills
  • Fast accurate typing.
  • To be organised, tidy, able to prioritise work, to have time management skills, pay attention to detail and able to work under pressure.
  • Confident telephone manner, able to deal with all types of the general public, in person and on the phone.

ROLE


To provide direct support to the Head of the Criminal Department and the Fee Earners within the Department to enable them to work to optimum efficiency.

This will include but will not be limited to the main responsibilities given below. The legal secretary is expected to use a high degree of self-management and initiative.


MAIN DUTIES

  • Reception duties to include: answering calls, meeting and greeting Clients, dealing with general enquires, callers and suppliers at reception. To obtain Client ID and address verification if required. To attend Clients and to provide support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the Firm's standards for Client care.
  • To prepare correspondence and documents via digital dictation to include: letters, witness statements, documents and forms etc.
  • To enter all Court Hearings etc in the Central Criminal diary and maintain the same.
  • To operate CJSM, LAA Online Portal, Egress, CCDCS (Criminal Online Portals) full training given.
  • To undertake Time Recording duties.
  • To administer filing which will include daily filing and the opening, closing, storage and retrieval of Client files in accordance with the detailed procedures contained in the Office Manual.
  • To take Debt / Credit Card Payments.
  • To prepare mail and enclosures for despatch.
  • To undertake photocopying as requested.
  • To liaise with and book Counsel and Agents.
  • Administration and Office duties as required.
  • To ensure confidentiality of all the Firm's and Client's documentation
Information.

  • Ensuring all Criminal Client matter adhere to the requirements, rules
Regulations as set by the Firm's Criminal Contract with the Legal Aid

Agency.

  • To undertake compliance with and be fully aware of all aspects of
requirements imposed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, Solicitors

Accounts Rules and the Law Society rules and regulations from time to

time in force for the conduct of a Solicitor.

  • To undertake specific training when required to do so and overall to
have personal responsibility towards self-development.


PERSON SPECIFATION

  • Ability to be flexible and able to adapt.
  • Able to communicate in person and on the phone and have a pleasant and patient manner.
  • To have a positive personality and able to work in a small office environment.
  • Finally, to have a good sense of humour.
Full Time, Permanent 9.00am - 5.00pm (1 hr lunch)

20 days holiday + bank holidays and extra at Xmas


Salary:
£20,000.00 plus depending on experience
