We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Environmental Advisor to join the team at Associated British Ports in Southampton.


You will provide leadership, support, and technical advice to help the region maintain, develop, and continually improve all aspects of Environmental Management in accordance with
ABP Policies, procedures and programmes, and wider HS&E Legislative requirements.

Accountabilities

  • Work closely with the Regional HS&E and management teams to support development and the delivery of the Environmental components of the HS&E strategy for the region.
  • Develop positive relationships, influencing the local teams to foster a culture which recognises the value of local ownership of Environmental matters through leading by example and being a safety and environmental champion for the region.
  • Mentor, advise and where appropriate challenge Managers and Supervisors to take ownership for the delivery of Environmental matters and ensure they take accountability of, and use the tools provided to manage Port Operations safely.
  • Promote and support the development and implementation of Regional and Group campaigns that proactively recognise and educate around potential risks and influence positive working behaviours.
  • Support the Regional Head of HS&E to develop Regional Environment Plans in collaboration with the local management teams.
  • Support the local teams to ensure the development and review Environmental aspects of relevant HS&E Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Provide support to the local teams to allow appropriate remedial or preventative actions following incidents recommending risk mitigation and other management actions as required.
  • Where required liaise with local enforcing authorities.
  • To supervise and manage Port environmental performance, licensing, and activities.
  • To identify opportunities for improvement.
  • To collate regular reports for performance of environmental aspects such as Energy, Air Quality, GHGs, Waste, Water

Requirements for the role are:


Crucial

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Environmental Diploma or equivalent.
  • Membership of IEMA or equivalent (e.g. CIWEM).
  • Experience with and indepth knowledge of ISO 14001 & 5000
  • A team player with experience at a technical level, able to connect with and influence peers, and deliver performance improvements.
  • Good level of understanding of HS&E legislation.
  • Experience/capable of managing external relationships with enforcement authorities and other external agencies.
  • Ability to promote a positive health, safety, and environmental culture within the region.

Ideal

  • Experience of providing Environmental professional support including influencing Company strategy in a safety critical organisation.
  • Educated to a degree level or alternative equivalent in an environmental management related discipline.
  • Practitioner level membership of IEMA or equivalent.


This role operates on a Monday to Friday shift pattern, totalling 37 hours per week with the core working hours from 8:00 to 16:00.
