Company Description

We are offering an opportunity to gain General Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) experience in a state-of-the-art adult critical care unit based at Queen Alexandra (QA) Hospital, Portsmouth, England.

The appointment is due to start as soon as possible in a timeline agreed by both parties.

Portsmouth ICU is recognised for all stages of training in ICM by the Faculty of ICM, and has C12 CICM (Australasian) accreditation.

Previous critical care/advanced airway skills are essential. There are plenty of opportunities for career development in interest areas (echocardiography, research, simulation, quality improvement and education particularly).

Our supportive and enthusiastic consultants come from a range of training backgrounds including Anaesthetics, Emergency Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Acute Medicine, Renal and single speciality ICM training.

Portsmouth is ideally placed on the South Coast of England, only an hour from London and with world class water sports in the Solent.

It is a perfect gateway to Europe with 3 major airports and a ferry port within easy reach.

We are able to offer 100% Adult Intensive Care Medicine OR 80% Intensive Care Medicine, 20% Relevant Specialty Experience (eg include: Teaching, Simulation, Echocardiography, Medicine, Anaesthesia, Physio/Rehab, Research, QI, CPET/Peri-op, etc.).

The Fellows/Registrars are responsible for the daily management of patients in the Department of Critical Care and overseeing more junior trainees.

They work alongside an established team of Advanced Critical Care Practitioners, both experienced and those still in training. Two consultants are present during day time hours and one out of hours.

Previous advanced airway management is a pre-requisite of the post.

Duties involve assessment and stabilisation of critically ill patients with safe transfer to Critical Care and then continuing care and management.

The middle grades carry the adult and paediatric cardiac arrest and trauma bleeps.

This post offers an excellent opportunity to consolidate and develop new skills in managing patients with critical illness. We provide a supportive training environment and numerous educational opportunities.
