We present an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join the Specialist Medicine inpatient team. This role offers the chance to enhance knowledge and skills in working with diverse patients across various specialties including regional services. Additionally, there will be opportunities to develop advanced dysphagia management skills in videofluoroscopy and FEES.
  • We are a supportive and amicable team with a high level of clinical expertise. We maintain strong connections with the broader MDT and community SLT services. You will have possibilities to enhance leadership skills by engaging in projects, task groups, and providing training.
Main duties of the job

To independently manage, triage, and prioritize your caseload by providing specialist SLT assessment, formulation, diagnosis, intervention, and advice for individuals with communication and/or swallowing difficulties, their families, carers, support staff, and professionals.
There will also be opportunities to deliver training, supervise, and support Band 5 and assistant Speech & Language Therapists.

  • Nottingham University Hospital Trust is a sizable teaching hospital with two sites: Queens Medical Centre and City Hospital.
  • The Speech & Language Therapist Service operates across both sites, collaborating with a distinct ENT service. Our scope covers a wide range of acute specialties such as Healthcare for the Older Person, Respiratory, and Critical Care.
  • NUH hosts numerous regional services including Neurosciences unit, Major Trauma Centre, a comprehensive Stroke unit, Trent Cardiac Centre, Burns Unit, and Upper GI services. The organization also includes SLTs in the Neurorehabilitation unit, the MDT neurorehabilitation outpatient services, and an SLT service for Neurology outpatients.

To deliver a top-notch Speech and Language Therapy service at Nottingham University Hospital Trust across various settings.
Role Context
The role demands clinical and professional expertise to ensure individuals with speech, language, and communication needs as well as dysphagia needs receive a well-coordinated, proactive, specialized, efficient, and effective speech and language therapy service within the specialized setting.
Represent the Speech and Language Therapy service at specified forums as necessary
Knowledge, training, and Experience**Degree in speech and language therapy
HCPC registration
Registered member of RCSLT
Completed RCSLT NQT competencies and, if relevant, Dysphagia competencies

Experience

  • Relevant postgraduate experience in specialist area including experience with working with dysphagia & communication difficulties
  • Well established knowledge of assessment tools for specialist group
  • Established knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group.
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrates effective ability to prioritize a large caseload
