Description

An existing opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and ambitious nurse or paramedic to train to become a Paediatric Advanced Clinical Practitioner (pACP) and join our existing two pACPs to work with our ED clinicians to assess patients aged up to 18 who attend the Emergency Department.

In order to support our seven-day medicine redesign programme and Ambulatory Care you will be required to work weekends and Bank Holidays.

You should have the ability to assess, diagnose and develop comprehensive management plans for paediatric patients under our care. Evidence of working at an advanced level is essential. Non-medical prescribing would be an advantage. Modules gained at Masters Level in clinical examination and/or diagnostics are also essential for the role.

During the working week, there will be dedicated time for academic study for the duration of the training.

The degree will have components including:
History taking and physical assessment, Pharmacology (Non-Medical prescribing) and Clinical decision making and reasoning.

  • Clinical Training

Clinical training in a 'live' ED environment will assist the trainee to build an e-portfolio to provide evidence at the end of three - four years to the Royal College of Emergency Medicine that the trainee can be accredited as an Advanced Practitioner.

Year - There will be a high component of teaching from ED consultants with working hours mainly restricted to 08:00-16:00, Monday through Friday

  • Duties will include:
  • Clerking stable paediatric patients in the Emergency Department
  • Attending some post take ward rounds
  • Clinical work will be organised around university commitments
  • APLS and ILS will need to be completed
Year 2

The trainee will start working one evening per week but only during the hours where there is consultant supervision.

  • Start to see sicker children directly
  • Attend some paediatric clinics and post take ward round
  • The trainee will not discharge patients without prior discussion with a clinical supervisor
Year 3
