Project Associate Apprentice - Public Realm**
Annual Salary: £24,684 London Living Wage Rate (£13.15 per hour)

Apprentice Grade

Full Time 36 hours per week

About the Job


The job title of Newham Apprentice applies to all of the apprentices hired as part of the Newham Apprenticeship Scheme.

Each apprentice will be a member of a specific functional team, although they will be expected to work in a flexible manner and carry out appropriate work in other teams when necessary to meet service objectives.


The Newham Apprenticeship Scheme offers an opportunity for you to start an exciting new career, whether it is your first job, returning to work after a career break, or you are looking for a change in career direction.


Earn as you learn whilst working alongside experienced colleagues who will help you to develop the skills the council needs.

Project Manager

  • The role of Project Associate Apprentice will support Projects and Programmes across the Public Realm Directorate, from Strategy and Policy changes through to trialling and introducing new services.
  • The role will support the Public Realm Leadership team to track the Directorate's projects by supporting the monthly and quarterly reporting cycles. Support the Programme Manager with creating and updating project documents, engaging with stakeholders including residents, taking meeting minutes and supporting the delivery of service changes.

As an apprentice at Newham you will receive:

Newham residents, who have not had access to higher education.


About You
We are looking for individuals who are self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work as part of a team.


To be successful as an Apprentice, you must have great time management skills and be willing to fit into the existing team structure.

You must demonstrate the council's values and behaviours in all that you do.

Outstanding Apprentices are those who respond well to criticism, build good relationships with colleagues, and ultimately make a positive lasting impression.


You will be a Newham resident and have a desire to make a difference in the local community and with a commitment to improving their skills.


You will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Achieved a Grade C / Grade 4 or above in at least 5 GCSEs including English and Mathematics and hold a minimum of 48 UCAS points, or equivalent.
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and use own initiative.
  • A commitment to deliver high quality services to Newham residents and a knowledge of local issues.
  • Organisational skills with the ability to focus on achieving targets.
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Good ICT skills
  • A commitment to undertake and complete a qualification via a structured apprenticeship training programme.
  • Basic level of work experience
