About our group:


The Global Internal Communications and Community Engagement Team works with partners across EMEA to deliver collaborative communication programmes, in a fast-paced environment, to drive engagement and connections across the region.


The Communications and Digital Officer role will support the development and delivery of a communication plan to raise the profile of the Smart Nano NI consortium and its activities.

The role will also support operational communication programmes for Seagate. The role is located in NI and will report to the Internal Communications and Engagement Manager.


Smart Nano NI is a partnership programme and represents a new cluster of organisations from Belfast to Derry/Londonderry that are pushing the boundaries of photonics, smart manufacturing, and nano-technology innovation.

The consortium shares specialised capabilities around nano manufacturing and world-leading knowledge in photonics and was awarded funding from UK Research and Innovation's Strength in Places Fund.


Smart Nano NI members are Analytics Engines, Causeway Sensors, Cirdan, Digital Catapult NI, North West Regional College, Queen's University Belfast, Seagate Technology, Ulster University and Yelo.


This position is a hybrid position working from home with a minimum of two days located at our NI facility in Derry/Londonderry NI.


This position is a 12-month fixed-term contract.

About the role - you will:


Coordinate and Plan:


  • Work closely with the Internal Communications and Community Engagement Manager and consortium partners, to coordinate an annual Consortium communication and engagement plan and quarterly action plan.
  • Prepare target driven communication actions plans to follow through on key initiatives.
  • Liaise with Consortium members to align partner communication and marketing plans with the annual/quarterly consortium plan.
  • Assist with general EMEA communication and engagement initiatives including scoping and developing of delivery action plans.

Digital and Communication Resources:


  • Manage and coordinate the digital planner for LinkedIn and other online platforms including the web platform.
  • Develop a quarterly content plan to support these platforms and communication targets.
  • Develop a hub of images and digital resources to support the content plan using photography, video and design.
  • Updating the database of specialist and UK media for the Photonics, Nano Technology and Business sector.
  • Develop draft content for media releases, features, case studies and online stories.
  • Develop draft message documents to support key themes/topics to support the annual and quarterly communications plan.

Community Connections:


  • Coordinate community engagement plan and initiatives to support outreach, inclusion and education initiatives/events as required.

Measurement of success:


  • Prepare weekly and quarterly update reports and performance measures against plan.
  • Develop baseline figures and targets for improvement as part of the quarterly and annual communication planning process.
  • Monitor effectiveness of channels with recommendations for improvements.
  • Benchmark best practice for communication with other Strength in Places Fund partners
  • Identify learning opportunities to support communication excellence.

Partnership working:


  • Coordinate monthly consortium communications planning meeting and action notes.
  • Monitor engagement and outcomes with communication partners.

About you:

  • Proven experience in producing content that distils complex concepts to a variety of internal and external audiences.

  • Hold a valid driving license and access to car.

Your experience includes:


  • Previous experience of managing communications and digital action plans for services or programmes.
  • Experience and ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders in a fastpaced environment.
  • Proven excellent written, oral and digital communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates effective time management, organisational skills and ability to manage multiple commitments and prioritise effectively.
