Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) is responsible for managing the Group's relationships with major corporate and government clients and institutional investors, and provides a full range of capital raising, transactional and risk management products and services.

The division also performs an important internal role for the Group by providing equities, markets, lending and transaction banking execution capabilities to other CBA business units that allows them to capture opportunities with business customers.

This reinforces the Group's purpose to improve the financial wellbeing of our customers and communities.

The Global Markets commodity business within IB&M provides risk management and derivative financing solutions for the Banks clients across metals & mining (precious metals, base metals & bulk commodities), oil, gas, carbon & agriculture.

The business works closely with the key industry sector teams particularly Natural Resources, Transport plus the Food, Beverage & Agriculture group where their clients have significant commodity price risk that need to be managed.

The Commodities business plan focuses on aligning the business to focus delivering a key product set to the Banks clients where we have a strategic advantage.


These clients can be producers, processors, traders or consumers of commodities, including metals, energy & agricultural products but also financial institutions, Central Banks.

Our objective is to be the preferred provider of commodity risk management and financing solutions to these clients. To achieve this we are focused on hiring the best people. These people bring a comprehensive understanding of commodity industries and markets.


The business is global currently with 30 people located in Sydney, London, Singapore & New York as key hubs for the commodities business.

This includes a team of 7 traders of which 2 currently cover metals. The metals sales & trading team consists of 11 people globally.


Focus for this role will be on the Natural Resources Sector ('NRS'), Transport, Industrials, Food Beverage & Agriculture and Financial Institution client sectors.

This role will ensure we fully partner with these sector teams, relevant product groups (Trade Finance, Project Finance and SAF) to develop and execute the strategy for Commodities in Europe.


The role will be responsible in helping develop the commodities trading platform in Europe through continuous improvement of pricing and risk management models, increased product capabilities & client coverage & increasing the risk profile of the bank within commodities.


Primary focus on helping develop CBA presence in the precious metals sector but also with a focus on the broader commodity sector oil, gas, base metals, agriculture and bulk commodities.


Do work that matters:
Your main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • you will support a commodity sales team responsible for structured commodity and trade financing business in Europe and the Americas.
  • Liaise directly with clients and capable for pricing, structuring and execution and booking of transactions.
  • Cover base and precious metals and carbon across spot sale/purchase, repo, structured finance, borrowing base facility and supply chain finance.
  • Engage with the broader commodity trading and sales team providing an exchange of information & idea generation.
  • Develop relationships with all key stakeholders within Commodities, Markets, IB&M and supporting areas (Product, operational, credit & market risk, Operations, Legal & Tax.)
  • Proactively understand the clients and trading strategy and identify opportunities.
We are interested in hearing from you if you have:

  • 3 to 5 years' experience working within a top level financial services organization
  • Good experience, across derivatives, financial and physical commodities.
  • Good knowledge of base and precious metals markets.
  • Experience of managing client relationships at a major financial institution within the commodities sector.
  • Experience of working within a global team and communicating with stakeholders offshore.-Sidekick
