JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of UKHSA, the Incinerator Operative is responsible for enforcing UKHSA policy, processes and procedures relating to the day to day operation of the Incinerator, with the responsibility for the receipt, storage, treatment and disposal of clinical waste in line with UKHSA and Legislative requirements.
Working as an Incinerator Operative, you will operate under the direction of the Incinerator Manager and always maintain the highest standards of Health and Safety.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure that Legal and Environmental compliance is adhered to whilst using the incinerator CEMS system.
- Ensure that the management and control of incinerated bins is accurately controlled.
- Accurately record details from waste paperwork onto the site's live electronic tracking system. Including preloading the system with incoming bins for operators covering later shifts.
- In the even of incinerator downtime, ensure any bins that are to be disposed of at an offsite facility are logged on a tracker and provided to the UKHSA Environmental Team.
- To understand and support in the compilation of CEMS management reports and print where necessary.
- To participate in the cleaning regime of the steam boiler and waste heat Incinerator.
- Ensure that consumables are requested in a timely manner to ensure the incinerator can operate efficiently.
- Ensure that the appropriate PPE is utilised to carry out the responsibilities safely.
- Escalate health and safety risks to the UKHSA Engineering Health and Safety Manager.
- Ensure that all mandatory training is completed in the dedicated timescales.
- To understand the basic operations of Steam Boiler control systems.
- To control the dosing of chemicals to ensure the emissions are within Government guidelines.
- Complete incident reports and assist in any investigations carried out by the UKHSA Environmental Team
- Host any contractors working within the incinerator hall as required by the UKHSA Engineering Team.
- Support the Incinerator Manager and wider EEF team as necessary.
- To provide cover during periods of planned and unplanned absence.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
You should pursue a programme of continuous professional development in accordance with any relevant professional registration or statutory requirements, whilst maintaining appropriate awareness of service provider requirements.
You shall be expected to identify, discuss and action own professional performance and training / development needs with your line manager through appraisal / individual development plan.
You shall also be expected to attend internal and external training events and participate in all mandatory training as required, i.e.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
We are looking for a highly organised and hardworking individual with excellent communication skills, who can work off their own initiative to prioritise work and ensure extremely high standards.
- Preferred experience in an Incineration Environment.
- Fire Extinguisher Training.
- The ability to undertake physically demanding tasks and work on your own initiative.
- Must be able to work all three shifts on a rotating basis.
- Steam Boiler Plant Controls and Systems would be advantageous.
