Job Summary
The HSE Officer will play a crucial role in promoting and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for refurbishment projects in schools, colleges, medical buildings, social housing, and commercial buildings.
The primary responsibility of the HSE Officer will be to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and implement effective HSE programs.
The role requires strong communication skills, a proactive approach to risk management, and the ability to work collaboratively with project teams.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement HSE policies and procedures specific to refurbishment projects, aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of work areas, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards and noncompliance issues.
- Provide HSE guidance and support to project teams, subcontractors, and employees to promote safe work practices and mitigate risks.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments for each project phase and develop appropriate control measures to minimize risks to workers, the public, and the environment.
- Collaborate with project managers to develop projectspecific HSE plans, ensuring integration of safety requirements into project schedules and budgets.
- Conduct HSE training sessions for employees, subcontractors, and project stakeholders to raise awareness and ensure understanding of safety procedures.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and prepare detailed reports with recommendations for preventive actions.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of HSE programs, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Maintain accurate HSE records and documentation, including incident reports, inspection findings, training records, and permits.
- Stay updated with relevant HSE regulations, industry standards, and emerging trends, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Qualifications and Skills
- 3 years' experience in Occupational Health and Safety within a construction environment.
- Relevant certifications such as NEBOSH or equivalent.
- Proven experience as an HSE Officer or similar role in the construction industry, preferably with expertise in refurbishment projects.
- Indepth knowledge of HSE regulations, codes, and standards related to construction and refurbishment.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment techniques and ability to develop effective control measures.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively train and educate others on HSE matters.
- Proficient in conducting incident investigations and producing comprehensive reports.
