_Home Health Care Assistant_
Harcombe Valley Care Ltd is a long-established small family-run domiciliary care agency, providing home care to older people in Sidmouth and immediate surrounding areas.

Care
As agreed in the care and support plan, attend to the personal care needs of the client
These needs could include:
- Meal preparation and assistance with eating
- General household duties laundry, ironing, light cleaning
- Shopping services, which might include taking a client shopping or making purchases on behalf of a client
- Support with medication
- Dressing
- Personal care, including bathing and showering, hair care, oral care, shaving, using the toilet or commode, moving and handling
- Respite services, including taking the client out or allowing the main carer to have a break
Compassion
- Provide personal care and support to clients, who may have a wide range of needs, illnesses and disabilities
- Undertake the tasks detailed in the client's care and support plan using a personcentred approach and in the least intrusive way.
- Carry out all tasks in a way that demonstrates respect for the privacy, dignity and value of all users, irrespective of differences.
Commitment
- Promote a positive, personal and professional profile, ensuring the good reputation of Harcombe Valley Care Ltd at all times
- Provide support as part of a caring team, liaising with informal carers, other agencies or professionals as necessary.
- Maintain capacity to travel between clients by their own means
Communication
- Keep up to date with client care by reading care plans at the start of each visit and complete a clear written record of visit when completed.
- Report to managers all information about changes to client health, own availability, client requests or other relevant information
- Respect the privacy and confidentiality of clients' records and personal information at all times, unless there is concern that a client is at risk of harm.
Courage
- Encourage the independence and motivation of the client and not foster dependent behaviour
- Recognise and report the signs of abuse, harm or danger and immediately report abuse or suspected abuse
- Seek out best practice and look at innovative ways to improve the quality and efficiency of service delivery
Competence
- Maintain professional relationships with clients and their families and remember that the client's home is a place of work.
- Take prompt, appropriate action in an emergency, including reporting on incidents.
- Dress appropriately, wearing uniform and using personal protective equipment provided by Harcombe Valley Care Ltd
- Observe all health & safety rules and take reasonable care to promote health and safety of self and others and raise any concerns
- Carry out any other duties which fall within the broad spirit, scope and purpose of this job description
- Work as a member of a team, attending such meetings as necessary to discuss service delivery.
Special conditions
- Flexible working, as evening, weekend and public holiday work is required
- Own transport is required
What you must have:
Full driving licence and access to a vehicle
Good communication skills in written and spoken English, able to produce accurate written records and verbal reports
High standard of personal integrity with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality
An interest in helping older people to live independent lives in their own home.
Smart clean appearance
Willingness to work flexible and variable hours including alternate weekends, keeping to allocated timescales
Ability and willingness to travel within Sidmouth and surrounding areas
A trustworthy, dependable nature
Willingness to undertake Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
Reasonable physical fitness - this an active role and you must be able to carry out activities to meet care and support needs
Interpersonal skills, or the ability to communicate and work effectively with everyone - staff, clients, families, external agencies - in a non-judgemental and compassionate way
Ability to work with others as well as without direct supervision whilst following the framework provided by clients' care and support plans
Qualifications in Care, First Aid, Manual Handling, or other relevant areas
Experience of caring for other people
