Responsibilities:


As a sub-contractor at LRQA you will, working individually or as part of a team, verifying conformity against aquaculture and chain of custody standards within the European food production sector.


After scheme specific training and qualification, you will be responsible for coordinating with clients to ensure audits are carried out professionally and their findings recorded in a clear and unambiguous manner.


The role


As a contractor tthe hours you work each week or month are agreed with yourself and our Edinburgh based administration team, as such you have the flexibility to control the volume of audits undertaken.


As an outcome from the process your audit will contribute to improving the client's management systems and provide assurance that their arrangements for managing their business are operating effectively.

You will develop a deep knowledge of scheme specific requirements and the rules governing certification and accreditation.

You will be required to attend periodic training as part of your CPD.


This is a challenging and diverse job that involves significant travel by road, air and sea but where you have the opportunity to meet specialists who manage a wide range of farm production and fish processing systems.


Competency Requirements

  • Work experience in the aquaculture and/or seafood sectors is a must.
  • As a subcontractor we expect you to already have 1st or 2nd party auditing experience within the food sector.
  • A degree or diploma (minimum 2 years) in a relevant scientific field, examples include: Marine Biology, Environmental Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Aquaculture, Food Science
  • Lead Assessor qualification based on ISO 1901
  • Training in HACCP principles, either as part of formal qualifications or through the successful completion of a formal course based on the principles of the Codex Alimentarius.
  • A minimum of 5 years direct experience in the aquaculture or fish processing sectors. Experience may take the form of at least 3 years of direct experience and at least 2 years of continuous auditing experience.
  • A qualification to audit GlobalGAP, ASC, BAP and/or MSC Chain of Custody will be a major advantage.
  • A minimum of 25 days onsite audit experience, either in aquaculture, animal welfare, food safety or environmental compliance.
  • You will have an analytical approach with proactive attitude and assertiveness
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A good command of English language both spoken and written.
  • The ability to conduct audits in a second language will be a benefit.
