The Department of Computer Science is seeking to recruit one Associate Lecturer (Teaching and Scholarship) on a 2-year fixed-term basis to support and engage with the development of new and existing modules and programmes of study, using teaching and learning techniques suitable for asynchronous online delivery.

You should have a postgraduate degree in Computer Science and teaching experience at post 16 or degree level across a broad range of computing related topics.

These post-holders will support and develop teaching on the Department's postgraduate online programmes in Computer Science as well as contribute to marking, supervise students and provide advice on study skills and learning problems.

Additionally, knowledge of issues related to teaching in higher education, such as assessment and feedback, and delivering a variety of teaching material are desirable.


Role

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed

  • Postgraduate degree in Computer Science is essential
  • PhD in a suitable area is desirable
  • A range of teaching experience that may include post 16 and/or HE at undergraduate and/ or postgraduate level or an evidenced similar context
  • Support distance learners including students whose first language may not be English, and students from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines, encouraging inclusivity.
  • To work as a team of tutors being responsive to both student and tutor needs
  • To support on campus programmes with lectures, lead seminars, tutorials and other forms of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities when required.
  • To undertake effectively a range of administrative responsibilities in support of the online programmes
  • To provide with mentoring supervision to students, giving advice on study skills and helping with learning problems.
  • Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with a wideranging audience, both orally and in writing, using a range of media
  • Experience of developing and delivering asynchronous online courses, to a wide range of backgrounds and abilities
This post is available on a fixed term basis for 24 months.
