Description
PA Advert

PA required Ashford area to support 13 year old young man

Hours are 15 per week

Description/Details of Role:
PA will be required to provide 1:1 support, enabling access to activities and days out.

You will need to be responsible, trustworthy and reliable whilst being fun, positive and keen; a good communicator who can engage and build a great relationship with him.

Tasks:

  • Take him on days out, including (but not exclusively) sporting activities like swimming and skate boarding.
  • Identify his needs when out and provide social and emotional support for him. Some knowledge and understanding of mental health support would be advantageous due to his past traumas.
  • Engage him with indoor activities. E.g. drawing and arts and crafts.

Details about the child requiring PA:
This young man has complex needs, ADHD, ODD and Type 1 Diabetes. His comprehension is delayed, therefore an understanding of this when engaging him in activities is required. He is very clever and can sometimes do things that he knows he should not do. Clear and precise instructions need to be used to avoid misunderstandings.

He can be a magpie, so his PA will need to be vigilant whilst out and about, as he has been known to take things he likes without understanding they need to be paid for.

You will need to look out for the non-verbal cues that he gives when he needs to have quiet time, ensuring he knows you are there but giving him the space he needs.

He does have a medical condition which needs to be monitored. All necessary training will be given to support the PA.

He is at risk when out in the community, as he can run away if he isn't being observed, therefore you will need to be aware and focussed when working with him, providing constant supervision in order to keep him safe at all times.

He is a lovely, funny young gentleman, who needs a caring and kind natured person to support him and give him the best opportunity to develop independence and a fulfilling life.

Requirements:

Experience and understanding of working with SEN children would be desirable skill set for the position.

Experience and knowledge around disabilities and impacting traits would be desirable.

A knowledge of diabetes management would be helpful, but training will provided to support him with his diabetes.

Access to a car, with appropriate insurance to use this for work, plus a clean driving licence is required.

An enhanced DBS will be required. This will be provided if there is not a current DBS in place.

A knowledge of physical intervention/restraint techniques, diffusion and de-escalation would be beneficial.
