Job Description Summary:
We are looking for a high performing Electrical Engineering specialist to work within our Global Electrical Operations Function.


The purpose of the Regional Electrical Authority - UK role is to be the primarily responsible person in the UK for all GE Renewable Energy Offshore electrical activity.

Each Regional Electrical Authority will work closely with the Regional Electrical Authorities in other countries and regions and, as a team, will provide assurance to the Global Electrical Leader and the GE Renewable Energy Offshore Wind executive leadership team that all statutory and regulatory obligations are being met by all functions within the business.


The role holder will retain oversight of all aspects of electrical safety within the UK, across all value chain functions, throughout the project lifecycle and will be the focal point for all electrical safety issues for the Offshore Wind Sourcing, Design Engineering, Product Service Engineering, Project Management and Service teams while ensuring that the local legislative requirements for electrical safety and those required under the company's internal procedures are fully met.


Supported by the Global Safe Systems of Work Leader and the LOTO Task Force Manager, they will act as Technical Authority on selection/approval and sourcing of anything that has a bearing on electrical safety outcomes.


As the Regional Electrical Authority - UK, you will:

  • Accept any local formal appointment or delegation of duties required under country specific legislation and standards.
  • Act as overall electrical authority for the UK
  • Assume overall responsibility for the appointment of persons to authorise them to carry out duties directly associated with electrical safety.
  • Manage consistency across Electrical Installations (via site specific Electrical Superintendents)
  • Hold responsibility for ensuring the design, installation, commissioning and operation, meet the regulatory requirements for the design of electrical equipment on the basis of applicable electrical and safety standards
  • Advise on the procurement of electrical machinery and equipment and analyse, verify and validate electrical designs, safety and control systems through FAT and SAT testing against relevant equipment and machinery directive and standards etc.
  • Define the requirements for the selection of electrical equipment and associated components and support the review of associated technical documentation
  • Lead within the overall Electrical Operations Team to align GSC, PMO and Service under the single, Electrical Safety Governance Procedure.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelors' degree in Electrical Engineering and experience in a relevant industrial engineering environment including HV, LV and Protection & Control Systems.
  • Applicants with extensive experience coupled with formal electrical engineering training or applicable craft training are also invited to apply
  • Previously appointed as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP), or equivalent, under an approved and published safety rules set is essential.

Travel Expectations

  • The role will be predominantly home based with regular travel to our sites, factories and customers' facilities.
  • The role requires domestic and international travel.
  • Ability and willingness to work offshore as required.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:


  • Understanding of the offshore wind industry
  • Indepth knowledge of Safe Systems of Work philosophy
  • Experience authoring Safe Systems of Work/Safety Rules
  • Experience working as an approver of authorisations under an approved and published safety rules set
  • Experience working as an approver of authorized safety documents (Permit to Work etc.) under an approved and published safety rules set
  • Ability to work in a crossfunctional and global team environment, managing the legal, technical and cultural variances throughout the countries of our operations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to explain and deal with technical complexity.

Languages:


  • Fluent in English capable of leading and contributing to technical discussions.
  • French, German and Spanish are considered beneficial.
