Head of Design & Draughting


Our client are a London based high-end joinery company specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of bespoke interior joinery for London's most luxurious residences.

They work with architects, interior designers, quantity surveyors, developers and private clients; providing interior solutions ranging from extensive wardrobe fit out, dressing rooms, cinemas and intricate free-standing pieces, through to fully integrated bespoke kitchens.

We undertake the full co-ordination of multiple schemes across an entire project.


Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Reporting to the MD, accountable for all design and draughting including workshop drawings ensuring feasibility of construction with all drawings sufficiently detailed to aid efficient manufacture of joinery products
  • Accountable for the leadership and management of the Design and Draughting team ensuring all works are delivered on time within budget to quality standards required
  • Support project and production teams
  • Lead the design and draughting phase of all projects, attending project meetings and as the main point of contact for all design and technical queries.
  • Establish and manage project design risk registers and status reports
  • Ensure health and safety is considered throughout the design process with feasibility of installation and use by end user front of mind
  • Ensure sufficient details are included in all drawings including Bills of Materials
  • Review and approval of all design and draughting drawings and CNC programming
  • Track and manage drawings and revisions issued
  • Establish consistent ways of working across the Design and Draughting department
  • Develop and establish systems and processes to optimise the design and draughting process reducing financial risk in manufacture through eliminating errors in workshop drawings, avoiding need for reworks
  • Working closely with external design teams ensuring design intent and design expectations are met
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with external design teams, becoming the go to for knowledge and expertise in joinery technical design, specification and detailing Requirements:
  • 5 years plus experience as head of joinery design & draughting or similar role
  • Experienced in technical design and development of workshop drawings for high quality bespoke furniture and joinery
  • Exceptional knowledge of joinery design and construction including fabrication and finishing procedures with a wide understanding of joinery materials including timber, boards, veneers, laminates, and hardware
  • Strong technical expertise with ability to solve technical problems and details between different types of materials such as wood, metal, glass, laminates, veneers etc
  • Experienced and proficient in design software Autocad, Solidworks, Inventor etc
  • Experienced in managing, developing and building effective teams
  • Strong management and communication skills
  • A keen eye and attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational ability
  • Highly motivated

Job Types:
Full-time, Permanent


Salary:
£50,000.00-£60,000.00 per year


Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • 7TZ: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
