We have an opportunity for an experienced midwife to join us as the Named Midwife for Safeguarding


We are searching for an experienced midwife with expert knowledge who ensures that maternity services provide care in accordance with 'Working together to safeguard children' By working collaboratively with the Senior Midwifery Team and Trust Safeguarding Team the postholder will ensure that there is effective leadership, education, oversight, completion of statutory safeguarding processes and service development.

The post holder will lead and drive change to ensure that vulnerable children and families are safeguarded and take an active part in the achievement of objectives, targets and strategic plans of the Trust


Main duties of the job include but are not limited to:
Provide advice and guidance for clinical teams on effective assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care according to changing health care needs, focusing on safeguarding and social vulnerabilities

Initiate and monitor changes and improvements to safeguarding processes including ensuring that the requirements of new guidance, Local Authority and national policy are implemented

Ensure that all statutory requirements contained within 'Working together to Safeguard Children' and the Children's Act are completed and there is representation from Midwifery on all relevant Safeguarding meetings internally and externally


Provide specialist advice and support by being visible and accessible, acting as the first point of call for information and concerns referred on from the clinical teams, patient services and external agencies as required.

Establish and maintain effective relationships with external partners to enable robust communication and joined up working.


Develop and maintain systems and processes to ensure that work is appropriately prioritised and allocated, and that effective safeguarding supervision and oversight is in place to support clinical teams and those who hold caseloads of vulnerable families and safeguarded children.

The results in the 2020 national NHS Staff Survey showed improvements in all elements of the safety culture theme, with 92% of respondents feeling their role made a difference to our patients.

We were also recognised nationally for our workforce health and wellbeing initiatives.
