Description
We are looking for a full time cook or two part time cooks to join our residential care home.


Purpose of the role


To assist in supervising and organising all aspects of kitchen activity in order to provide a nutritious and well-balanced, high standard dietary service, to the residents of the Care Home.


To assist in planning for and buying high quality food within budgetary constraints, taking into account residents' likes and dislikes and special dietary and nutritional needs.


To assist in planning a well-balanced and comprehensive menu which gives residents an element of choice, but which keeps wastage to a minimum.

To keep self and staff adequately trained and up-dated, in food hygiene and safety legislation, and new catering techniques.


Description of duties

  • To plan a full and complete menu on a periodic rotation basis, allowing for some element of choice.
  • To ensure that all food is used within the prescribed period (i.e. within expiry dates) paying particular attention to perishable goods, which should be labelled with the date and time of opening before being placed in the fridge.
  • To prepare and cook food as requested in a safe and hygienic manner
  • To liaise with the planning and ordering of stocks and purchases within the budget, in order to fulfil the menu plan and other daytoday incidentals
  • To plan and cater for the special requirements of diabetics and others with particular dietary or nutritional needs
  • To discuss with residents and / or relatives, various options in order to cater for likes and dislikes
  • To consult weekly with nursing staff as to any changes in the dietary needs of current residents, or to determine the needs of new residents
  • To liaise with the manager regarding catering for special social events, celebrations, birthdays, festivities, Christmas, anniversaries etc.
  • To ensure all kitchen staff are trained within the requirements of current legislation
  • To ensure the kitchen, dining room and adjoining areas are maintained to the level of cleanliness demanded by the Health and Safety Executive.
  • To keep equipment clean, in good working order and stored safely
  • To attend meetings and discussions organised by the manager or requested by other staff to help coordinate the kitchen, review working practices or improve standards
  • To undertake any other reasonable requests made by the manager, or the nurse in charge

Job Types:
Full-time, Part-time, Permanent

Part-time hours: 40 per week

£10.50 per hour
