Job description


Cheshire Constabulary has an opportunity for a Detective Sergeant to join the ever growing Digital Media investigation Unit (DMIU)work within the Public Protection Directorate, leading a wide range of digital forensics investigations, working closely alongside the online child abuse investigations team.

Ensuring high quality of service delivery in the examinations, processing, and reporting of all digital devices and digital media

This opportunity is available to both internal and external substantive sergeants

Key roles / Responsibilities

Review, prioritise and task digital forensics investigations ensuring comprehensive strategies are produced, negotiated, agreed and executed.

Intrusively supervise and review investigations / examinations undertaken by the OCAIT (Online Child Abuse Investigation Team) & Digital Forensics.

Actively reviewing reports produced to make sure compelling evidence is obtained, preserved and provided that will robustly stand up to scrutiny of the legal profession.


Be able to present comprehensive digital forensic strategies to senior management and identify digital forensics opportunities to support serious and complex criminal investigations.

Provide legal and technical advice to staff investigating such crimes.

Support Local Policing operations as directed


Ensure continued professionally development within the team, manage, mentor, action and monitor specialist accredited training, coach staff throughout, maintaining and developing competency in line with ISO 17025 and 17020.


Manage training, briefings and guidance for internal and external users to enhance their understanding and expertise in the preservation of evidence recovery along with the use of digital forensic technology.

To ensure that all computer based information held by the Units complies with the Data Protection Act.

Ensure the effective and timely submission and dissemination of intelligence in accordance with the National Intelligence Model.


To oversee the management of the ISO 17025 and 17020 accreditation ensuring compliance with all the relevant legislation and the FSR Codes of Practice and Conduct, making sure all standards are continually achieved, developed and maintained, along with supervising and overseeing UKAS surveillance visits.

To ensure immediate safeguarding of children and vulnerable individuals including working with partner agencies to achieve this.

Experience

Skills & Knowledge

Good working knowledge of sexual and associated crimes including ability to manage safeguarding


Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills and be have the ability to be able to present complex issues to diverse audiences.

Ability to work accurately with meticulous attention to detail whilst under tight deadlines.

Demonstrate excellent time management and organisational skills.

Deal professionally with a variety of issues in an environment that demands confidentiality.

An understanding of web related and internet related technologies, computing software and hardware.

Understanding in criminal investigation procedure/protocol and legislation appertaining to digital media.
