We are looking for an enthusiastic and positive person to compliment the Typing Pool team as a Staff Supervisor at St Richard's Hospital supporting the Typing Pool Manager and working closely with the Staff Supervisor at St Richard's Hospital supporting in creating a comprehensive, flexible and robust typing service to the Surgical and Medicine Care Groups.


This is an opportunity for someone looking to develop their career further by developing knowledge and experience in learning HR policies with full support from the Typing Pool Manager.

The Typing Pool provides a comprehensive and efficient typing service through the provision of the typing pool.

The Typing Pool Staff Supervisor is expected to supervise a team of Medical Typists becoming closely involved with specialty typing and administrative support requirements.

This will require cross covering other Typing Pool Staff Supervisors during times of absence.

As well as supervising the team of Medical Typists the post holder will be required to work as part of the team typing letters and be actively involved in improvement initiatives impacting on the throughput of work in the typing pool.

This role is also required to manage day to day administration of the Digital Dictation system.

  • Responsible for the day to day supervision and coordination of administration staff within the department, allocating work and checking.
  • Act as a role model and demonstrate behaviours in line with Trust values.
  • Work without supervision, problem solve and take initiative where required.
  • Coordinate and oversee workload of Band 3 Medical Typists to ensure KPIs are met.
  • Act as Digital Dictation System administrator for Trust.
  • To act as the first point of contact between Specialty Coordinators and the Typing Pool, building and maintaining good communication with them and other staff in the department.
  • Communicate effectively with the teams on a timely basis ensuring robust systems exist so that staff feel informed and engaged.
  • Highlight any departmental concerns regarding performance of the team or operational issues that prevent service delivery to Typing Pool Manager.
  • Prepare reports where necessary, analysing statistics i.e. weekly stats, KPIs
  • Allocate resource appropriately to maximise effectiveness to deliver KPIs
  • Use HR reports to proactively manage Appraisals, Mandatory Training and Sickness absence
  • Attain and maintain a working knowledge of relevant HR policies to be effective in role, seeking HR support as required in so as to advise managers confidently on processes and monitoring systems.
