The person we are looking for should:

  • Be creative and hardworking.

Qualifications and experience:

  • A graduate with qualified teacher status.
  • An outstanding teacher in MFL, with a strong teaching record and specialisms in Spanish and French.
  • Relevant qualifications (both formal and through appropriate experience) to meet the challenge of the appointment.
  • Excellent indepth knowledge of the place of MFL in the development of young people and of the place of within the wider curriculum.

Job description

Introduction to the Department
There are currently 5 members of the Modern Foreign Languages Team.

Modern Foreign Languages (French, German, Spanish) is extremely well taught across all Key Stages, including Sixth Form education, with students reaching high levels of achievement.


Duties of role will include:


  • Bringing impactful leadership capacity to the team, including working in close collaboration with the Director of Learning
  • To be able to secure high standards of learning and achievement in MFL across the full ability range at both Key Stage 4 and Key Stage
  • To be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and assessment strategies and know how to use them to provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential
  • To have high expectations of our young people
  • To be prepared to contribute to broad aspects of MFL.
  • To be able to work effectively as part of a team, to identify opportunities for sharing good practice

Plan and deliver high quality teaching and learning which:

  • Develops the whole student, including MFL skills of enquiry and curiosity; is engaging, appropriately challenging and relevant.
  • Meets the needs of all students taking into account the individual requirements of each student.
  • Fulfils the demands of the relevant specifications, tutor guides (schemes of work) and college ethos.
  • Makes a positive impact on student attainment and achievement.

Work with other staff in contributing to student learning including:

  • Supporting students outside their timetabled learning sessions through support clinics and tutorials.
  • Enhancing students' experience of MFL through involvement in enrichment and extension activities.
  • Actively participating in and contributing to MFL team meetings, leadership meetings, leading meetings/ professional development sessions as when appropriate
  • Working with other staff to enhance the MFL curriculum, innovate new ideas to improve student outcomes and provide wider enriching experiences for students.

Assessment and Reporting:


  • Provide students with regular, incisive feedback in response to their written work.
  • Ensure that marking, recording and reporting are in line with college policies.
  • Ensure that appropriately challenging targets are set and used with all students, and that these targets are reviewed regularly with respect to attainment and achievement.
  • Be able to accurately assess each learning groups' levels of attainment against student targets and national benchmarks.

  • Set and maintain high standards, expectations and aspirations for both staff and students, ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect and that they receive appropriate guidance, support and recognition.
