The opportunity:
We are looking for someone who shares our enthusiasm and passion for shaping a better world and to play an integral role in helping our clients understand the impact of their operations, projects and assets and help them transition to net zero carbon, deliver biodiversity net gain, promote circular economy and provide sustainable outcomes.
You will be working as part of our growing Climate and Sustainability Services team in London to drive the growth of our sustainable infrastructure project delivery services.
You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of high-profile clients across a range of sectors and engage with Arup's broad portfolio of projects.
Whilst based in London, this role also involves integrated working with other Arup offices, both within the UK and globally.
Typical work will involve leading projects delivering sustainability and environmental advisory services on major infrastructure projects, developing sustainability frameworks, target and KPI setting, strategy development and implementation, EMS aligned to ISO14001, assurance tools, processes and procedures, improvement/opportunity management, monitoring and assessment, reporting and feedback, contract formulation and review.
There is also opportunity to support development of growth areas such as circular economy delivery and delivering and implementing innovation at the forefront of sustainable design.
You will oversee several projects, responsible for understanding a client's needs, bringing together the right skills from across Arup, and managing all aspects of the project to deliver valuable outcomes for the client.
You will be involved in aspects including line management, mentoring, budget and resource management, marketing and business planning and be able to lead on bidding processes for new work.
Key responsibilities in the role will be:
- Support the continued growth and development of the Climate and Sustainability Services business
- Develop a diverse service offering which differentiates Arup in the marketplace and serves to attract and retain the best talent.
- Drive client engagement, focusing on the UK market, building relationships with key clients and proactively identifying new business opportunities to support the growth of sustainability business for portfolio
Is the role right for you?
You will be a motivated, enthusiastic and ambitious individual with existing environmental / sustainability consultancy experience, able to work on your own initiative.
- Experience in developing and implementing sustainability strategies and/or management systems (notably EMS to ISO for organisations/projects.
- Strong Project Management skills
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and industry best practice
- Experience and track record in the delivery of major infrastructure such as rail, water, energy, cities.
- Experience managing sustainability issues during construction including onsite support and monitoring
- Understanding of the principles of sustainability and climate change and its relationship to the planning, design, construction and/or operation of the built environment.
Qualifications
- Education to degree level but preferably a Masters degree.
- Member of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) or equivalent
- Chartered Environmentalist or working towards Chartered Environmentalist
