About the role


The University is looking for a passionate individual to support the universities abmitions sustainable targets the role is to Lead in the sustainable procurement workstream and provide expert advice and insight within relevant specialist area to help to address problems, make recommendations and propose improvements to maximise efficiency and effectiveness.


Responsibilities include:
Support the Sustainability Team in the realisation of the University's Net Zero 2035 ambition:

  • Support the delivery of activities within the University's Sustainability Programme concerning Scope 3 emissions reduction.
  • Support the Sustainability Team in the capture and reporting of Scope 3 emissions relating to procurement.
  • Share and embed sustainable procurement practice within all procurement teams at the University.
  • Leading and supporting procurement of sustainabilityrelated goods and services.
Take ownership of the Sustainable Supply Chain Engagement Strategy:

  • Assist in the development of the University's Sustainable Supply Chain Engagement Strategy.
  • Lead the implementation of this strategy for procurement activities across campus.
  • Engage with our suppliers to support their Net Zero journey.
Promote the University's Ethical and Sustainable Procurement Principles Framework.

  • Drive the inclusion of sustainability requirements with new and renewed supplier contracts.
  • Monitoring supplier's performance to ensure they are making progress towards the sustainability requirements of their contracts.

About you

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Of graduate calibre with relevant professional qualification or experience, as appropriate to the discipline (see rolespecific criteria below)
  • Effective planning and organisational skills, including project management.
  • Well developed interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly build rapport with the ability to effectively influence other in area of expertise, effectively contribute to team working
  • Effective oral and written communications skills to work with colleagues and customers providing information and responding to questions and queries, with the ability to present complex technical messages in a way that can be understood by most stakeholders
  • Ability to work flexibly within a small team and on own initiative.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to generate effective solutions and make effective decisions
  • Competent IT skills to effectively manager own workload
  • MS Suite. Experience using functional databases.

  • Able to demonstrate knowledge, skills and ability equivalent to "Professional" level
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding and ability to secure ValueforMoney operating within the Public Contract Regulations

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Excellent working knowledge of Sustainable policies and agendas, Procurement and Commercial best practice, regulations and stakeholder management, as appropriate for a skilled practitioner
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge, skills and ability equivalent to "Professional" level

About our Division
The Finance Division is led by the Director of Finance who reports directly to the Vice Chancellor.

We employ some 80 staff who provide high quality financial and commercial services which support both the day to day running of our schools, services, and the development and delivery of the University's strategic aims.

Our staff work in partnership with academic, professional service colleagues, and students to understand their priorities and needs.

We maintain efficient and effective services, systems, and processes, assist in identifying and exploiting commercial and strategic opportunities, manage financial risk and improve 'spending power' through negotiation of favourable commercial terms.

We work hard to equip staff across the University with financial capability and confidence to ensure that the University makes the best use of resources for our students and research partners
