Job description:

Assistant Project Manager - Chelmsford ( 12months fixed term)


Murphy has been awarded one of three multi-billion-pound contracts by Network Rail for the South of England, worth up to £7bn for Control Period 6.The multi-discipline framework will deliver projects of varying value, including stations, buildings andcivils, electrifications, power, signalling, telecommunications and track.

This role is for an Assistant Project Manager role to support the construction of the Cambridge South Station project. The project comprises the construction of a new four platform railway station and associated infrastructure to provide a connection toAddenbrooke's Hospital and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus with destinations such as central London, Stansted Airport, Ely and Birmingham

The main purpose ofthe role is to support the Project Manager with the overall management and delivery of project and be accountable for the delivery of a Section(s) of the project


What you will be doing

  • Work in accordance with the company values.
  • Visible safety leadership across the project to support the project manager and the Murphy Never Harm value
  • Assist with the overall management of project teams during the construction and installation phase of the project.
  • Assist with the coordination of constructability input during design and development phase.
  • Assist in the development of the project resource plan
  • Liaises with the Project Managers to ensure that the construction resource pool is an appropriate size, with an appropriate blend of skillsets, for the projected workload.
  • Assist with the overall management of construction resources including Labour, Plant and Materials.
  • Assist in the update of the project programme and prepares periodic updates and look ahead programme for managed sections of the project work scope.
  • Assist with the overall performance management of subcontractors and escalate any issues early to the Project Manager or Commercial Manager.
  • Ensures that the construction and installation teams are accountable for their performance against agreed schedules and manhour budgets (Planned vs Actual measures).
  • Ensures that all construction and installation activities are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Ensures that the duties of the Principal Contractor are discharged in accordance with the CDM Regulations.
  • Ensures that all temporary and permanent construction and installation activities are carried out in accordance with agreed quality procedures.
  • Ensure regular input from the Project Manager is gained on third party, environmental and public relations issues.
  • Supports the Project Manager with 3rd party, Client and Stakeholder management
  • Delivery of work within a given budget
  • Ensure a suitable understanding of the project commercial strategy and tender assumptions is received.
  • Identifies change and opportunities for recover of value in accordance with the Contract and commercial strategy
  • Identifies ways to reduce cost

Who we are looking for

  • A HND degree in Civil Engineering/Construction Management.
  • Experience in construction industry
  • Health and safety knowledge and potentially holds a health and safety related qualification.
  • Working towards chartership with Association of Project Managers or equivalent organisation
  • CSCS Card
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills with previous line management experience.
