Key tasks
General
Dental charity Dentaid is seeking Mobile Dental Unit drivers.
You will drive our vehicles to our clinics for homeless and vulnerable patients, set up the unit, help maintain our charity vehicles and support the mobile dental team by assisting patients in accessing the unit.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Drives the mobile dental unit (8m in length with a similar profile to a recreational vehicle) to and from service locations including the safe piloting and parking of the unit in numerous physical environments.
- Assist patients in navigating to and entering the unit (including operating the wheelchair lift) from service location buildings and parking areas for safety and efficiency.
- Employs excellent customer service skills during all interactions with patients and visitors. Reassures patients and community partners by anticipating their needs and concerns;
- Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information according to Dentaid policy.
- Able to multitask, and work within a dynamic work environment maintaining the flexibility necessary to meet the changing needs of patients and office workflow.
- Performs miscellaneous administrative support duties as assigned when not driving or fulfilling other tasks.
PROFESSIONAL / TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Must be flexible. Occasional overnight stays may be required.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
- Must possess a Class C level one driving license. C
- No points on current driving license completely clean.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Parks / places the mobile dental unit at service locations.
- Ensures patient access to the unit by marking and clearing entry / egress routes.
- Loads / unloads equipment at each location as needed for the services being provided.
- Prepares the unit for mobile operations including (but not limited to) leveling and stabilizing the unit, ensuring electrical power and properly functioning waste systems, unpacking / releasing equipment and supplies stored during travel etc.
- Repacks the unit and prepares it for travel to overnight (or longer term) storage emptying waste, refueling, securing within storage facilities etc.
- Responsible for operating all mechanical systems including (but not limited to) the unit's levelers / stabilizers, generator, electrical hookups, waste system and holding tanks etc.
- Implements all operating and basic maintenance procedures for the unit including (but not limited to) checking and filling fluids, filling fuel, checking and maintaining tire pressure etc.
- Coordinates and arranges for the unit's preventive maintenance schedule (oil changes, generator service etc.) as well as servicing any malfunctions / breakdowns.
- Maintains cleanliness and professional appearance of vehicle.
COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS
- Effectively communicates information during informal and formal verbal presentations.
- Effective problem solving skills : the ability to handle difficult or unexpected situations in the workplace as well as complex challenges independently.
