An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the School of Computer Science and Informatics. You will be joining Cardiff University, one of the UK's leading research led universities, as a research assistant for the DISINFTRUST Project, which is funded by the European Media and Information Fund. This position is full-time (35 hours per week) and available from 1 August 2023 for 5 months. Cardiff University has a successful School of Computer Science & Informatics with an international reputation for its teaching and research activities. We have seen a transformation of our research environment with the School almost doubling in size.

We have moved into a new £39 million purpose-built facility shared with the School of Mathematics called Abacws, designed to facilitate interaction between disciplines and give our research groups new freedom to develop research culture and build identity.

We are a research-led School with a longstanding, international reputation for applied research activities, and collaborate with more than 100 UK and international academic and industrial partners.

In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) 96% of our submitted research was rated as world-leading or internationally excellent.

The School delivers a stimulating portfolio of BSc and MSc degrees and offers research degrees leading to MPhil and PhD qualifications.

Main function


To contribute to research within natural language processing, carrying out supporting work that helps lead to high quality research within the scope of a project about trustworthiness assessment in social media.

To pursue excellence in research and to inspire others to do the same.
Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To undertake research, e.g. by planning, preparing, setting up, conducting and recording the outcome of experiments using natural language processing techniques
  • Actively participate within the research group, communicating and presenting research at meetings, through publications and other recognised avenues as appropriate, ensuring information is communicated to internal and external partners
  • To contribute and support research publications and presentations as required
  • To contribute and support research funding bids as required
  • To analyse and communicate complex ideas, concepts and data using appropriate methods and packages
To resolve issues and support colleagues in devising procedures required to ensure accurate and timely reporting

  • To generate research output and contribute to the development of independent and original ideas as appropriate
To provide support in research activities for undergraduate courses and research programmes and provide guidance to other members of staff within the research team

  • To maintain and update area of specia
