Purpose of Role
The Composite Team Leader will report to the Composite Manager, based at our facility in Hythe.
Principle Job Responsibilities


The Composite Team Leader is responsible for supporting the management team / business to ensure the smooth running of the composite teams within the workshop.

The post holder will lead a team of employees and ensure that the composite work is carried out to the required Oyster standard.

General Requirements of the Role

  • Ensure a positive Health & Safety culture exists with no exceptions. You must be consistent and sustained in your approach, following the company Health & Safety guidelines, being proactive in promoting the use of safe working practices
  • Support management and production teams to create a feasible schedule for your product line
  • Work to agreed schedule, ensuring the product line remains on time vs allocated budget hours, track progress daily against the task lists and report any deviation from the budgeted hours
  • Provide suggestions for a catch back plan if the schedule was to slip
  • Provide feedback by completing DCR in the case of drawing issues
  • Lead the composite team in compliance with Oyster's policy and procedures, predominantly in relation to Code of Conduct, H&S, Oyster Work Instructions, Quality and Performance Management and Development
  • Carry out employee development and performance management activities
  • Improve productivity and quality, encouraging ideas from the team as well as communicating progress of such improvements
  • Coach junior members of the team, following up on their training and development, provide updates to the management team on their progress
  • Ensure accurate completion of documentation relating to production & quality for the product line
  • Take responsibility for overall cleanliness and organisation within your work bay
  • Oversee the work completed by all staff on your product line
  • Carry out staff management, such as return to work and performance & absence management

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily completion of Build Logs and Job Cards (as well as other associated documentation)
  • Ensure that all required materials, items and assets are in place for the successful build of your product line, ensuring that purchase requisitions are completed as required
  • Perform quality inspections to ensure all parts of the product line conform to Oyster quality standards
  • Complete DCR and other quality related documents
  • Maintain and manage HSE on your line and within the workshop
  • Manage your teams direct HR requirements such as timesheets, back to work interviews and holiday requests
  • Ensure your work bay is Clean, Clear and Organized (using 5S and Lean Techniques)

Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications required to perform the role


Knowledge

  • Robust Composite knowledge and experience with the production of Hull mouldings, which includes fitting Stringers and installing Bulkheads and Longitudinal structure with the ability to work from and understand technical drawings.

Skills

  • Able to make decisions and follow through with them
  • Excellent communication skills, as well as the ability to motivate yourself and the team to keep up to date with new technologies
  • Consistently reduce time spent in the overall production of your line
  • Reduce the amount of rework required on your production line
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace using Lean/SS tools

Experience

  • Proven track record of motivating and developing others
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings
  • Experience of directing and motivating a team in a fastpaced facility
  • Previous experience of working with Oyster Yachts
