Full Time 37.5 hours week

Based in Prevention WMFS HQ, Vauxhall Road, Nechells, Birmingham. B7 4HW.


One Temporary Post Covering Maternity - Up to 10 Months


West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) is looking to recruit a passionate and enthusiastic person to work in the Partnerships and Vulnerability Team within Prevention as our Business Partner - Adults (BPA).

The position is temporary covering maternity leave of up to 10 months.


As one of the leading fire and rescue services in the country, our primary role is to provide emergency fire cover and proactive prevention to the people within our communities.

The role of Business Partner - Adults is to support our operational and non-operational personnel delivering prevention activities to those most at risk and vulnerable to fire by providing professional support, advice and guidance.

To further enhance this work, the successful applicant will have a good understanding of services and support available from our partners across the West Midlands.


Using its incident and other data, WMFS is able to identify those most at risk and vulnerable to fire so that we can target our resources to the right place and at the right time to keep the people in our communities safe.

The Business Partner - Adults supports this work by having a deep understanding of what the data tells us so that we can deliver our prevention activities to those that most need it and to provide support to operational staff when required.

The successful applicant will also support the work of our Complex Needs Officers (WMFS personnel who work with the absolute most vulnerable people in our communities) including offering advice, guidance, supervision, training and arranging team their meetings.

The Business Partner - Adults will be required to carry out training and provide support in key areas that include adult safeguarding, Serious Incident Reviews (WMFS's internal learning post incident) and Safe and Well.

The preventative work that West Midlands Fire Service undertakes is aligned to its organisational priorities and while the role is primarily internally focused, the objectives of the role of BPA include:

  • Working directly towards the prevention objectives in "The Plan" and effectively provide advice, support and guidance to operational crews in delivering "The Plan", the Prevention Policy and prevention activities
  • Supporting work to deliver and improve the quality of Safe and Well visits across WMFS area
  • Providing advice and guidance to the operational delivery teams in delivering the outcomes for "Making West Midlands Safer, Stronger and Healthier"
  • Contributing to and supporting the work of the Evaluation and Quality Assurance Team in evaluating and quality assuring prevention activities
  • Having a sound knowledge and understanding of the teams within Prevention in order to provide business partner support to operational crews and partners where appropriate.

The successful applicant for this exciting role will be an integral member of the Partnerships and Vulnerability Team and will offer innovative ideas and solutions to help identify further ways to reach, support and protect those most vulnerable.


Experience of working with and an understanding of those most vulnerable in our communities is essential for the role of BPA.

A qualification in social care is desirable but consideration will be given to applicants offering relevant job experience and role specific training will be provided.

The successful applicant will have excellent IT skills and experience of and proficiency in the use of Microsoft O365 and its integrated apps including Teams, Outlook, PowerBi, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
