You will work directly with the public at life defining moments. It is a unique and privileged role. You will have a variety of work and be part of documenting the social history of Redbridge. You need to be thorough and accurate. Your knowledge and skills will develop everyday as days are varied.

Duties include:

To assist in the full range of duties relating to the registration of births, deaths, marriages and stillbirths within the Borough
To assist with citizenship duties
Answering calls from the public
Booking ceremonies
Booking birth, death and notice appointments,
Registering marriage ceremonies in the Register Office and outside venues in Redbridge
Registering, births, deaths and stillbirths in a legally correct, timely, professional and efficient manner and in accordance with performance targets

The essential skills for this role include:

Flexibility
Keen attention to detail
Good people skills empathy and calm under pressure, team worker, reliable and trustworthy, professional presentation, legible handwriting

It is hard work and there is a lot to learn but the variety of work and the diversity of customers make it a worthwhile career.

Previous experience in Registration Services/Event Management would be an advantage.

Weekend working as part of a rota is a necessity due to the nature of the job.

One year temporary contract

Doctors, midwives, ministers of religion, funeral directors and anyone working in the life assurance industry are not allowed to become registrars.
