The Equity Funds Team is seeking to fill a [ ]-months Intern position at the EBRD HQ in London, with the flexibility to work partially from home in accordance with EBRD's current policy.


The Intern is expected to support members of the Equity Funds Team predominantly with research and ad hoc tasks, but also, possibly as a member of specific investment teams, across the full investment cycle (see below) and in post investment fund monitoring.

The Intern is expected to attend meetings (virtual or in person) alongside members of the Equity Funds Team.

Background


The investment cycle involves several stages from the initial review, selection and assessment of a fund investment proposal, various internal approvals, due diligence and legal documentation, followed by monitoring and reporting on the performance of the fund investment.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Working under the supervision of the operation leader or a more senior team member, core responsibilities for this role may include, but may not be limited to, the following:

Portfolio Monitoring, Value Creation and Reporting:

  • As requested by the operation leader or a more senior team member, undertake assigned tasks relating to the implementation and monitoring of fund investments including reviewing reports from fund managers, monitoring the fund's financial performance, and assessing evolving risk factors.
  • As requested by the operation leader or a more senior team member, assist with the preparation of timely and comprehensive monitoring reports.
  • Monitoring and assessing funds' covenant compliance, as well as other more administrative aspects of monitoring.
  • Prepare internal documentation, including database reporting, assistance with the valuation process, preparation of ad hoc reports and briefing notes.
  • Provide support to operation leaders and/or more senior members of the team with other ad hoc tasks as required.

Structuring and Execution:


  • Contribute to aspects of the investment approval cycle, including assisting with the preparation of internal investment memoranda, particularly less complex areas of a memorandum (e.g. tables, charts, annexes). This may entail background and information searches, carrying out integrity analysis and market research, assisting financial analysis or taking responsibility for a specific section in an approval document.
  • Ensure that all tasks assigned to the Intern are completed within the specified timeframes, to a high quality, and in line with the policies, procedures and objectives of the Bank.
Qualification & Skills / Experience & Knowledge


Qualifications and Skills:


  • A graduate currently enrolled and working towards a further degree in economics, finance, engineering or law or a graduate in any other discipline with proven interest in emerging markets and private equity, venture capital or infrastructure.
  • Developed analytical and numerical skills; ability for logical reasoning and accurate interpretation of data. Attention to detail is critical.
  • Business writing skills, with the ability to write wellstructured, concise, consistent and accurate longform documents in professional business English.
  • Computer literacy, conversant with Microsoft Office packages, including financial analysis and modelling modules.
  • Strong team player, able to integrate into a small multinational team and able to liaise with different departments within the Bank remotely and in person.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure, managing multiple tasks to meet varying deadlines.
  • Conscientious, reliable, flexible and highly organised, able to prioritise and work independently asking questions where necessary.
  • Fluent in English, with good written and oral communication skills.

Experience & Knowledge:


  • Relevant financial industry experience would be an advantage (e.g. experience and/or internship(s) with a fund manager, investment bank, asset management firm, or auditing/financial consulting firm operating to international standards).
  • Preferable knowledge and/or understanding of the fundoffund's business model and/or emerging markets private equity, venture capital or infrastructure.
  • Interest in the mission of EBRD and in private equity, venture capital and/or infrastructure funds as an asset class.
