Qualifications and relevant training:


Essential:

Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.


Desirable:

NVQ 2 or 3 in Food and Catering or its equivalent.

Health and Safety Training e.g Moving and Handling, First Aid. etc


Relevant experience:


Essential:

Experience in preparing simple and tasteful food for a number of people.

Experience of working safely in a busy kitchen.


Desirable:

Experience of managing a busy kitchen and to be a team leader.

Experience of preparing healthy menus for various dietary requirements.

Experience of ordering food whilst keeping within the budget.


Skills and specialist knowledge:


Essential:

To possess good cooking skills to prepare tasteful and healthy meals.

To be able to work within a tight schedule.

To be able to prepare meals for a number of people.

Possess good interpersonal skills.

Purpose of the post:


  • Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
  • Responsibility for the management and order in the kitchen that includes ordering food, preparing menus and meals, serving meals and snacks. Keep required records about all aspects of kitchen work. Supervise cleanliness and safety in the kitchen, instruct and supervise staff and manage all services associated with the kitchen.

Responsibility for functions:


  • Responsibility for staff, finance and the equipment associated with the kitchen. Inform the manager and/or the property section and/or another agency of any deficiency in the kitchen building or equipment associated with the kitchen

Main duties:


  • Ensure that service users keep their dignity, independence, and rights at all times. An integral part of this is to ensure that the users have an opportunity to choose their food every day and have an input to the type of food provided.
  • Participate in and conduct meetings with service users to gather information and feedback.
  • To have the knowledge and ability to prepare meals for individuals with complex needs
  • Committed to supporting 'cookery' activities with service users
  • To organise theme days/evenings
  • Ensure that the organisation and administration of the kitchen is effective and efficient and in compliance with relevant Health and Safety legislation and the Council's policies and guidelines.
  • Order goods
  • Prepare, cook and present nutritious and tasty meals to service users in a clean environment and in compliance with legislation and the relevant guidelines.
  • Planning and following a menu by considering nutrition needs.
  • Control meal sizes in accordance with the relevant guidelines and the wishes of service users
  • Supervise kitchen staff including specifying duties, work arrangements and training.
  • Adhere to cleaning arrangements, and update the schemes
  • Ensure that property matters receive attention and that kitchen standards do not slip.
  • Responsibility for the budget, and to work effectively

  • Attend relevant training for the post.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Supervise and appraise kitchen staff in accordance with the Council's system and in collaboration with the Home Manager.
  • Compliance with the relevant requirements, Regulation, and Inspection of Social Care Wales 201
  • Agree to any medical investigation considered to be of benefit to the worker and/or the service.
