Costain is looking to strengthen their CMDP Engineering team with the appointment of a
Senior Design Manager

About the project
CMDP is a joint venture between Costain and MWHT and delivers a range of schemes to maintain and improve Southern Water's water supply and wastewater treatment works in the eastern half its region (Kent & Sussex & Hampshire)


About the role


The Senior Design Manager will be a key member of the CMDP Design Leadership Team, accountable for the delivery of engineering solutions across the £350m AMP7 water and wastewater programme of work from initial definition of need through optioneering, solution development, detail design and construction support.

This key role will involve home and office working (Brighton & Southampton) and supporting both remote and office based Costain and MWHT design teams in Manchester.

The key accountabilities of the role will be to lead timely design production and provide strong resource management at Framework level


Key Responsibilities
Drive technical delivery within the CMDP design team and grown design capability across the region
Play an active role within the Design Leadership Team
Manage technical output and drive innovation to meet capital efficiency targets and sustainable solutions to meet our carbon targets
Help define the overall design and production strategy and ensure it delivers on CMDP's expectations
Design production and reporting of progress at Framework level
Resource Management, recruitment and on-boarding of design staff
Design team competency assurance and coordination of training needs
Manage and develop supply chain
Share best practice, knowledge, and efficiency improvements
Development and continual improvement of AMP7 design procedures and ownership of the Design Management Audit process


About You
Water sector experience with an understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes
A strong technical manager with significant line / team management experience in a Design and Build environment
A positive, results focused, flexible can-do approach with the ability to influence and motivate others
Previous experience of planning, resource management, change management and budget management
Working knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety
Previous experience working in Joint Ventures (preferred)
Experience with BIM and digital delivery practices
IT skills including MS Office, advanced Excel, Teams, SharePoint, (ProjectWise - desirable although not essential)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a dynamic working environment
Full UK driving licence
