We are looking for 2 Band 3 Ophthalmic Vision Scientist Assistants to join the team at the Hoxton Satellite Hub.

The role in this service is a varied and you will be asked to work and support the ophthalmic imaging of patients.

You will have the opportunity to use your own excellent interpersonal skills as well as a range of technical skills while looking after the patients attending this busy outpatient department.

After the necessary training and induction, you will be an integral member of the ophthalmic imaging service, ensuring the effective and efficient maintenance of a comprehensive patient pathway.


You will be supported through your training which will comprise of both theoretical and practical training where your competencies will be assessed.


Previous experience as a healthcare assistant or Ophthalmic Technician, and / or an NVQ level 3 in care or equivalent healthcare related qualification is desirable.

Please note the interview will include a 45minte face to face interview and a 30 minute practical equipment assessment.

Experienced mentors are assigned to all new staff and there are excellent opportunities for continuing professional development.


PROBATIONARY PERIOD


During the probationary period, your suitability for continued employment will be assessed and provided a satisfactory standard is achieved and maintained, your employment will be confirmed.

The probationary period may be extended or your employment terminated either during or at the end of probation, in line with the trust Probationary Policy.

For the duration of the probation period, the notice period will be in line with contractual obligations on either side.

Support senior staff in the provision of a caring and safe environment.


Demonstrate competence in generic and specialist skills as required from Appendix 1 following the completion of the appropriate training and education and within 12 months from commencement in role.

Work collaboratively with others as part of the multi-disciplinary team, assisting other staff in duties associated with patient care.

Support colleagues in ensuring that patients receive care in a timely manner during their visit to Moorfields.

Ensuring that patients are fully informed of any delays and what is being done to address or rectify delays in treatments or clinical tests.


Ensure that the clinical areas are prepared for use at the start of each shift and reviewed at regular intervals throughout the day e.g.

ensuring that clinical areas are clean and tidy, all the necessary equipment such as clinical documents and consumables are stocked up adhering to all health and safety and infection control policies.


Be responsible for the initial reporting of faulty equipment and follow-up repairs, keeping the supervisor or nurse in charge informed.

Provide comfort, reassurance and support to patients and their carers in times of high anxiety or distress.

Respond appropriately to emergency situations.

Act as a chaperone when required.
