We are currently recruiting
A Food Safety Officer to work within the Trading Standards Service at Lancashire County Council.


Are you a qualified and customer focused Food Safety/Standards Officer who understands the importance of your role within the community? Our Trading Standards Service has a significant responsibility to ensure that food standards are exemplary and keep our society safe.

The Food Standards Team within the Trading Standards Service is a specialised team which is amalgamated with multidisciplinary experts including metrology, animal feed and agriculture.

We deliver essential statutory services to a variety of stakeholders both internal and external.

This is to guide and encourage legal compliance, with enforcement when necessary, to protect both the businesses and consumers within Lancashire.

What we are searching for

Advise & Influence - We are seeking an influential and experienced Food Safety Officer to advise local businesses in Lancashire and help govern compliance within food standards legislation. You'll have core responsibilities to ensure businesses are up to speed with the rules, obligations, and the priority of the safety and fairness of trading to their customers. This critical role requires a current knowledge of legislation with the ability to plan for future changes that impact businesses and/or consumers. You could be advising on practical solutions, timescales or the steps required to ensure any objectives are met; with your technical expertise you will make critical judgements to influence and encourage local businesses to comply with their statutory obligations.


Communication & Collaboration - As a confident professional, we'll need you to communicate to a wide audience of stakeholders; including food manufacturers, importers, exporters, retailers, the health & wellbeing industry and more. With your excellent interpersonal skills, you will deliver food compliance information with purpose, transparency, knowledge and equality. You'll build positive working relationships with partner agencies such as the Food Standards Agency, Environment Agency etc. In this varied role you may need to have difficult conversations so how you approach each situation will be key. Finally, you'll be an exceptional team player and understand the importance of listening, guiding and collaborating with other's to achieve the best outcomes.
