You will have the opportunity to attend the regular operating sessions of the Clinical Team to assist with major surgery and be trained in basic surgical skills under the close supervision of the Consultant.
The post-holder will be required to work across Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley & South Ribble Hospital. and these are 12-month fixed term posts, with potential to extend further.
The posts are available for commencement as soon as possible, but a suitable start date could be arranged with the successful applicants.
Main duties include:
Daily ward round at Chorley and South Ribble District Hospital or Royal Preston Hospital
Attendance at out-patient clinics at Preston and Chorley
Operating sessions will be determined by the individual's experience with both supervised in-patient and day case lists in Chorley allowing training in endoscopic and laparoscopic
This post will be part of the 1 in 10 on-call rota at CT/FY2 level covering Preston and Chorley
Audit and research activities, participation in teaching and training activities for medical and clinical staff is
Assessment of ward referral at Royal Preston and Chorley
Providing support to more junior staff g. FY1/Medical Students.
Weekly program will typically include 1 clinic, 2 inpatient operative lists and ward rounds
There will be good opportunities to develop core trainee skills during emergency surgery cases.

General Surgical services are currently delivered by a unified department across the Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites.
At Royal Preston Hospital, the General Surgery Department is based on three wards. Three of the fourteen theatres are dedicated to general surgery. There is a dedicated 24-hour Emergency Theatre and a separate Day Case Unit/Theatre and modern Endoscopy Suite.
At Chorley and South Ribble Hospital, there are two general surgical theatres with an integrated laparoscopic theatre and in-patient surgical beds, as well as full out-patient facilities and a radiology department providing CT, MR and interventional facilities.
