We are looking for Architectural Officer that will carry out the design and project management of a wide range of architectural schemes and contracts, including working for in-house Clients on schools, housing and many of the Council's portfolio of buildings.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Undertake the effective delivery of the services in which you are involved, including: (a) Survey, scheme design, drawing preparation, contract preparation, project management and site supervision for capital building schemes, generally in value up to £3.5million. (b) Liaise within the Council's departments to ensure that schemes are designed and built within departmental and statutory needs and where affordable maximise the benefits of sustainable construction. (c) Fulfil the role of 'Principal Designer' under the Construction, Design and Management Regulations 2015 on Council projects, as directed by the Building Design Manager and Head of Capital Projects.
  • Liaise with and provide effective advice to Council officers, Members, bodies and organisations regarding relevant issues.
  • Keep the Building Design Manager and Head of Capital Projects fully appraised of issues that may be raised through the design and construction of schemes.
  • Prepare drawings for exhibitions, working groups and committee purposes as required. You will also be required to attend such exhibitions and be expected to discuss schemes as required. 5. Support the delivery of projects as requested which may extend beyond the boundaries of the department.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a field relevant to the role
  • Professional qualification in an appropriate field relevant to this post
  • Membership of a professional body relevant to the role, e.g. RICS
  • Approximately 4 years' experience of design, contract preparation, project management and supervision of building schemes, such as
    New build design Refurbishment of buildings
  • Experience of undertaking the Principal Designer role in the context of the CDM regulations E 6 Knowledge and understanding of health and safety matters, and particularly in relation to CDM regulations including the Principal Designer role
  • Experience of working with and monitoring the work of consultants
  • Experience of effectively monitoring allocated budgets
  • Experience of interpreting legislation, policy or procedures to give recommendations and advice Demonstrable competency in the use of all aspects of AutoCad Experience of directing project staff and supervising their work, providing advice and guidance as needed
  • Awareness of BS EN ISO 9002 criteria for quality assurance and environmental Management
  • Experience of using MS Project
  • Ability to prioritise work and to perform under pressure to meet deadlines on a number of different projects
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing to a wide range of audiences (including ability to write clear and concise reports & presentations)
  • Ability to use initiative and make decisions outside immediate policy and procedure, and without reference to manager.
  • Able to deal confidently with members of the public, colleagues, members and external organisations
  • Ability to analyse situations and produce effective solutions.
  • Ability to present information in a logical and systematic manner
  • Ability to develop and sustain relationships with a range of parties and with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Ability to work independently through the design process and show the necessary flair to produce schemes that meet the clients aspirations and budget
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team

  • Be adaptable and prepared to work in and contribute to team activities
  • Capable of independent travel to carry out the requirements of the post
